I've always thought I should like Cecil Taylor and I've tried alot of the stuff mentioned in this thread. The only thing that has worked for me is the Feel Trio. I think it is because of Tony Oxley. To me, he really compliments Taylor perfectly.

Maybe I can find the duo album mentioned on the previous page. At least if I don't have to give up an arm or leg.

Have you heard "Silent Tongues"? It has been my experience that it is the one Cecil Taylor album that many people find immediately accessible.

I have an pretty beat-up LP I bought used. Haven't listened to it for a long time but don't remember liking it much. Honestly, that may have been partially due to the condition. Maybe I should give it another go. Thanks.

Just stumbled across this link - which includes a couple of fascinating interview transcriptions with Andrew Cyrille and Tony Oxley about Cecil and his music...

Thanks for the link. Really enjoyed reading this.

'European speculative improv community' :g

I bet Stanley Crouch would love that.

You can stream a little bit of the rare Nicaragua No Pasaran bootleg LP over at Destination:Out if you're so inclined. Scarce LP - never owned a copy - but the performance sounds, from what I can tell, like a fine one.

Also, for the streaming or the downloading, is an archival/unreleased FMP orchestra session that I haven't gotten to just yet, but it looks impressive.

That's a restaurant in Cape Town?

Or not?

Please enlighten me!

Fly! Fly! Fly! Fly! Fly! = 5 Flies

:tophat::crazy:

Apparently it is a real restaurant, however. I'm not sure I'd want to use flies to help advertise a food service venue though.

There's a CD titled 'Leaf Palm Hand' of them that is not very expensive and it's also very good. I think Jazzloft and the usual suspects have it. Amazon has it for $12.43:

Hey I love this album! One of my favourites from the towering Berlin set. Cecil and Tony really have a rapport, which arguably came to full fruition in the Feel Trio. Extraordinary, stellar music!

Btw, I listened to Fly! x5 recently and it's a beautiful album, basically a series of miniatures compared to the usual titanic extravaganzas. A bit like a full album of those 'postcripts' he uses to wind down.

Does anyone have the new edition of Fly! (X5) yet? I'm guessing the sound is good. I'm looking forward to getting this eventually. What does Schlippenbach have to say?

I know we're not linking boots/etc. so I won't do that here, but I am curious if anyone' s heard the 1971 Town Hall solo concert that's recently been put out on CD. Saw a used copy and was curious if it's worth picking up (therefore avoiding paying the bootleggers) or if the sound is abominable.

The sound is bad, but fighting through it I heard some motifs in his playing that I wasn't familiar with, so I think it's worth the plunge.
