jazzbo
The box set "Turn Out the Stars" featuring Bill Evans' final trio live, is back in print and reasonably priced. This is phenomenal music. This is perhaps (I say perhaps) the best recorded of the final trio's live output and the music is Evans at his best, in my opinion. I'm very happy to see this back in print. I really love this music. It encompasses many moods and feelings and has much for the brain to work on as well. I like Evans of all periods, but I do reach for this final one a bit more often. In many ways he left us at the top of his piano playing. JETman
I agree. This is certainly amongst the most satisfying Evans there is. I too reach for this more often than any of his earlier period work.
jazzbo
36 dollars new at Amazon, I paid I think more than twice that when it first came out long ago! It's worth it.
Son-of-a-Weizen
Box arrived today....a great deal at $35.99.
captainwrong
IIRC I gave $90 for it back in the day. Total leap of faith purchase as I had no Evans. Never regretted it. $35 is a steal.
mjzee
Any idea what this is/will be? Polycarbonate?
Aggie87
Any idea what this is/will be? Polycarbonate? I dunno, but I've already ordered it just to see if it will ship at that price. Amazon had a similar SHM Japanese Kinks box set recently, also for a good price, but those orders got cancelled.
jazzhound
Have this on vinyl via Mosaic. Doesn't do much for me besides Nardis. don't like the bass player.
jlhoots
Any idea what this is/will be? Polycarbonate? [/quote I think it's a 2 CD set, not the entire set (if that makes any sense).

Son-of-a-Weizen
I think it's a 2 CD set, not the entire set (if that makes any sense). You could be right about that.....although if a 2-cd SHM 'highlights' set was in the works, chances are it would be listed over at HMV Jpn along with the regular SHM 6-disc set that's due out in July. That set is still being described as 'remastered' ? .....a confusing listing for sure.

Proud to say I attended during that week and Evans having mentioned to the audience that all the material was being recorded, I was surprised that it had taken so long for the initial CD box set to come out, not to mention that I thought it would first be released on LP, it being only a couple of months thereafter in 1980 when he passed away. sidewinder
Amazon UK seem to have the 6CD set at £38 with a 'to be released' date of 15th May I think.
jazzbo
Got this from another board (AAJ): Best Buy is selling the set for 13.99. Seems that it's still legit for now. Go for it. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...&id=1962921 I don't believe that they ship to Europe.
