robviti
of course, i'm prepared for the possibility that they might skip over obama altogether and go for the "swine flu is god's way of punishing homosexuals" argument again. Wait a second. You mean it's not? the lord doesn't need any smart remarks from the likes of you, young man!

Soulstation1
IMO I am not a doctor but I doubt a mask can protect you from this Flu Dr SS1
papsrus
I think you're right. It's not viruses spread through sneezes or coughs that will get you. It's your hands, I think.

Jazzmoose
Really. I don't worry about things like pandemics, asteroid crashes, massive earthquakes, etc. If they happen, they happen. I'm too concerned about stretching my paycheck, holding on to my job, etc.

Aggie87
While this strain needs to be resolved, it's a drop in the bucket according to CNN.com. The regular flu has killed 13,000 people in the U.S. since January alone. And it kills roughly 36,000 annually in the U.S.
Tim McG
We have had one reported incidence in my Little Land O'Enchantment. Here's a hint: The child isn't from Canada. Take note, Augie.
Aggie87
We have had one reported incidence in my Little Land O'Enchantment. Here's a hint: The child isn't from Canada. Take note, Augie. If "Augie" is me, I'm not sure why you're directing that at me. If it's someone else, I don't know who you're referring to, sorry. I don't see anyone else you could mean though. And I"m not sure what your comment about the child not being from Canada means. Are you saying it's a Mexican child? Does that mean something? We've got 20 suspected cases here in my county currently. Many of them are children. Many are probably of Hispanic origin. All are American. Swinging Swede
WHO has raised its Pandemic Alert level to 5 of 6 possible levels, just days after raising it to 4. That at least sounds pretty serious.
Alexander
The thing is, we can't DO anything about it, so what's the point of freaking out? If freaking out reduced the number of flu related deaths, that would be one thing, but it doesn't. All we can do is take reasonable precautions (wash your hands, don't go touching your nose, eyes, and mouth) and hope for the best. That's it! Son-of-a-Weizen
Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday that he's advising his own family to stay off commercial airlines and even subways because of the new strain of swine flu. Biden said if one person sneezes on a confined aircraft, "it goes all the way through the aircraft."

sidewinder
I sneezed a few times in Cheltenham into my tissue (being riddled with a heavy cold) and got some pretty dirty looks from shoppers and jazz attendees. catesta
By the way, how come people are not getting creative with these masks? I mean why not at least wear one of those plastic halloween masks from back in the day instead of the same old boring surgical and dust masks. Aggie87
My kids' school district just closed all schools today, until at least May 14th. Sigh. Looks like some involuntary vacation time for me coming up.
