Chalupa
Yet another victim of the swine flu.... I had tickets to go see Japanese noise artist/musician Merzbow on May 19th. He canceled his show today. The reason given was fear of contracting the swine flu. WTF??
Tom Storer
When even Japanese noise artist/musicians are freaking out over swine flu, what is the world coming to?
Jazzmoose
G.I.S.M. wouldn't have canceled; they'd have performed a song about it...
B. Goren.
You know, it's always been said that if a black man ever became President, pigs would fly. And, sure enough, only 100 days into Obama's Presidency, swine flu!!!

Dave James
Let's run the numbers. As of last Saturday, there were approximately 615 confirmed cases of H1N1. World population? Well, that's 6.77 billion. That means the entire country is panicking over and infection rate of 9 millionth of 1 percent. Can you say overreaction? Up over and out. Actually it's the entire world that is overreacting. Not to say there wasn't or isn't reasons to be concerned, but damn, some of that shit was really going way overboard. Finally today.... papsrus
I think it was the mutating characteristics of the virus that had health officials alarmed more than the rate it was/is spreading.
Son-of-a-Weizen
The last time we witnessed an outbreak of panic on such a large-scale was during the '07 Concord blowout sale, wasn't it?
Niko
I think it was the mutating characteristics of the virus that had health officials alarmed more than the rate it was/is spreading. imho at least the numbers for mexico are to small to make sense... the virus seems to be very contagious and officially there are not that many more patients in mexico than elsewhere in the world... given what i believe mexico city is like i'd guess the true numbers are at least somewhere in the ten thousands... ________________ edit to add: the numbers here are a mess but you see that there are considerable numbers of cases outside mexico - it doesn't feel reasonable to me that 3000 infected people in mexico can spread a disease to other countries like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_swine_flu_outbreak Edited May 5, 2009 by Niko

Shrdlu
Did any pig ever get this disease? Papsrus, your dog's snout pic still breaks me up, hee hee. (I had a pic on here, but accidentally deleted it and when I tried to re-upload it, I got a message saying that the file is too large. I forget how to reduce the pixels. Most sites just take the pic without hassle.)
rostasi
Well, the Swine Flu in general is endemic in pigs, but this '09 version hasn't actually been found in pigs. It's kind of a misnomer for that reason, but it has genes that are closely related to swine flu, so it's been, somewhat erroneously given that name.
