Werf Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 Tomorrow morning I'm buying records at Vertigo Music at 11am. I'm eager to snag special Record Store Day releases Pavement LIVE lp and Guided by Voices HOLD ON HOPE ep, and I've already got a stack of jazz CDs on hold, including WAY OUT WEST, some Art Tatum, Nat Adderly, Horace Silver, and Louis Armstrong. http://www.recordstoreday.com/Home Quote
Big Al Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 Asleep at the Wheel is supposed to be at Forever Young. That sounds cool! Quote
ghost of miles Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 Going down to Landlocked Music in Bloomington. Our weekday jazz DJ, Joe Bourne, is going to be spinning some tunes from 1-2 p.m....lots of other fun stuff going on and freebies to be had. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 Celebrated a day early by going to Dusty Groove. Bought the reissue of Roscoe's Solo Sackville record, Bill Dixon's Aum Fidelity "Darfur" and the dvd of Les Stances a Sophie. Cubs game tomorrow. Quote
David Ayers Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 We have that here too, but our local indy shop closed a few years ago and our classical store closed a few months ago. Of the chains, Fopp and Zavvi vanished, we've just got HMV left. According to BBC, a quarter of all outlets in UK have closed this year: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8005429.stm Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 We have that here too, but our local indy shop closed a few years ago and our classical store closed a few months ago. Of the chains, Fopp and Zavvi vanished, we've just got HMV left. According to BBC, a quarter of all outlets in UK have closed this year: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8005429.stm The radio news item mentioned the 305 independents in that BBC article but also contrasted it with well over 2 000 outlets in the 1980s. A real sign of the change. I know I live 30 miles in one direction and 16 in another from my nearest independent. Neither specialise in the main areas of music I enjoy. But I wish the survivors well - I always look forward to visiting Sounds Good in Cheltenham and Music Matters and the Bath Compact Disc Shop when I'm in those areas. Quote
sidewinder Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 Music Matters and the Bath Compact Disc Shop when I'm in those areas. A gem ! Quote

Chalupa Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 Well either I am no longer able to delete my own topics or I'm doing something wrong. So I guess we'll just have to have two for now Quote

Right. I thought Jim went back and restored the editing/deleting feature for everyone except that one poster. Edit: Hope I'm not stirring up another Hornet's nest again. Edited April 18, 2009 by J.H. AllenLowe Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 I went down and shoplifted a couple of 45s - Quote
ejp626 Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 I went to the Reckless nearest me and picked up some Maynard Ferguson on vinyl. Reckless is one of the few remaining record stores in Chicago and still does good business, so all the promotional goodies and limited edition stuff was gone before I got there. C'est la vie. Quote
WorldB3 Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 Ghost of Miles - great set. Hopefully you helped to sell some vinyl. Quote
