AccuJazz Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Hey Organissimo folks, it's Lucas Gillan, programming director for AccuJazz Internet radio. I'm letting you know about the newest channel in our weekly roll-out of free streaming jazz channels, "Composers: Bird and Diz." It's got everything from Bird's original take on Donna Lee to Anthony Braxton playing Dewey Square on piano. Please read on and check it out if you can. Thanks! AccuJazz Internet radio continues its weekly roll-out of new streaming jazz channels today with "Composers: Bird and Diz," a channel devoted entirely to the compositions of bebop masters Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. The channel is free to use and available 24 hours a day. When Parker and Gillespie (nicknamed "Bird" and "Diz," respectively) burst on to the scene in the 1940's, it was as if an earthquake had struck the jazz world. The new style they created, "Bebop," was a musical revolution and tested the chops of jazz musicians everywhere. While their innovations had a huge impact on methods of improvisation, some of their greatest contributions to jazz history were their many memorable compositions. Melodies like "Now's the Time," "A Night In Tunisia," "Yardbird Suite," "Salt Peanuts" and many others are still played by jazz musicians all over the world. AccuJazz channel listeners will hear the tunes as originally played by the composers as well as hundreds of other versions of the songs from jazz musicians of every era. Everyone from Oscar Peterson to Anthony Braxton offer their individual takes on the timeless compositions. "Composers: Bird and Diz" is the third channel in AccuJazz's "Jazz by Composer" category, joining channels devoted to the compositions of Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk. It brings the total AccuJazz channel tally up to 32, with other AccuJazz channels including "Piano Jazz," "Cutting Edge," "Women of Jazz," "Straight Ahead," and "Jazz Fusion." Listen now at AccuJazz.com. Quote
BeBop Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Accujazz, Look at your previous postings and you'll find that I'm something of an advocate for your service. But do you really need a new thread here for every new channel? Could we confine things to one, AccuJazz update thread? Sorry, it's not really my business; I'm not a moderator here. But, at some point, since all you're posting is AccuJazz updates, it starts to smell like spam. Quote
