BERIGAN Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009  I want to announce that I'm leaving also! Well, actually, I have to go to Europe for some dumb meetings. See everyone in the middle of May, and may the Mariners still be in first place when I get back. Who is also, and why are you leaving her??? Quote
BERIGAN Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 I'm sure we can find a quote from Jim Leyland that "its only been eight games" last April. As for Dice-K, its obvious they knew something was up. The Globe says that Tito or the pitching coach told Masterson that he'd be called on first out of the bullpen and "to be ready". They knew going in that Matsuzaka was likely to suck donkey dicks. Call the Marlins and get Hanley Ramirez that is what they were talking about last week on EEI. I would pull the trigger and send Bucholz ,Ellsbury and anyone else the Marlins need for Ramirez. Hey, good luck with getting Hanley from the Marlins! First off, the Marlins have more than enough starting pitching(IF they stay healthy) and will no doubt win the WS for the 3rd time this year. Then trade off Uggla and Hanley. Actually, they got a stadium deal, so they will try to hold on to him I'd imagine. Quote
Quincy Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 See everyone in the middle of May, and may the Mariners still be in first place when I get back. Whoa ho, Ichiro hits a grand slam for a 7 run 7th! Can you believe this? This is fun. I'd forgotten what this was like! Springtime...I love it I love it I love it! Quote
Soulstation1 Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Sizemore hits CC's first pitch at Yankee Stadium for a homerun Quote
Dan Gould Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Not exactly. I'm wondering if this game has "reverse lock" all over it - opening day at the new stadium, C.C. vs a struggling Cliff Lee, but as Lee has given up a hit and an HBP I have little hope that Yankee fans won't go home happy today. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 I didn't think the game started yet Dan the tribe WILL win today Quote
Chalupa Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Sizemore hits CC's first pitch at Yankee Stadium for a homerun Damn, you had me going there for a minute. Quote
Dan Gould Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 The worst defender on the field makes the first "web gem" as Jeter catches some huckleberry straying off first on a pop up to shallow left, double play to get Sabathia out of trouble. I hope you are right, Jeff but I'm not holding my breath. Quote
Dan Gould Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 I know Sabathia is a horse but why send him out for the sixth inning at 105 pitches? He ends up throwing 122 for 5 2/3 innings, can't be the winner, on the hook for the runner he left ... all those innings and pitches over the last two seasons, and all that money committed to him. I'd be a lot more careful with him, especially early in the year. Quote
Dan Gould Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Well now we know why they wanted to get as many outs as possible from Sabathia. What a putrid bullpen performance that was. "We Want Swisher" is the plea of the crowd. Seriously though, I could see the fans turn on Marte and Veras very quickly this season. They epitomize "untrustworthy" and are likely to blow up multiple winnable games. Quote
Chalupa Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 The Indians scored 9 runs in one inning?? I got a feeling this is gonna be a l-o-n-g season the Yanks. Quote
Dave James Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Great. Do-mess-o Marte pitches an inning of T-ball and Mark Texiera is whopping the ball at a clip that makes the Mendoza Line look like a nine foot high jump. I was a Girardi advocate before he was hired. Now, not so much. This has trainwreck written all over it. Thank God for A.J. Burnett. Up over and out. Quote
Dan Gould Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Thank God for A.J. Burnett. Up over and out. and how long can you really expect to keep saying that? Quote
Johnny E Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Mariners win a nail biter, 1-0, and Eric Bedard, get this, goes eight innings -- amazing. Your First Place Seattle Mariners. Ichiro comes back from the DL and smacks a grand slam. I gotta say,m this team looks good and plays the game right. They got piching and defense, Griffey is gonna surprise alot of peopl ethis year and they are doing all the little things. Looks like it's gonna be a good summer. Go M's!!! Quote
Patrick Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Nice to see a solid start from Cliff Lee, and some Tribe offense (...finally). I share the puzzlement of letting CC's pitch count rise so high in a mid-April start. He is a horse, but the 120+ pitch outings really should be saved for key times during the season. And this is not a key time (for the Yankees, or Red Sox, or...). Quote
Dan Gould Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 Its only the second time he's done it prior to July in any season, and the time before was in late June, his last start for Cleveland before the trade. Quote
Patrick Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 gotta get a few more miles out of the truck before trading it in! Quote
PHILLYQ Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 Great. Now, not so much. This has trainwreck written all over it. Thank God for A.J. Burnett. Up over and out. Texeira always starts slow, but I'm concerned about the bullpen already. Bruney has been good, Rivera is Rivera, but so far everyone else is iffy. Coke is so far NOT IT. Quote
papsrus Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 Rays seem like a different animal with Longoria out of the lineup the past couple of games. Offense looks pretty flat again. Fast start, this ain't. Quote
Tim McG Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 The Giants bullpen ruined Cain's jem last night. I've got three words for how the Giants did tonight: Barry Fucking Zito. 4BB, 6R [all earned] 0-2. $18 million dollars a year and for what? What a loser. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 OK First MLB game you saw in person? 1979 Tribe vs Yanks doubleheader in C-town I saw Munson play weeks before his plane crash Quote
PHILLYQ Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 1962, Yankee Stadium(the original), a doubleheader on a Sunday. I know I saw Mantle, but I don't remember who the Yanks played- I was 6. Quote
