And Virginia is amazing. I did try to book us in DC and Richmond, but as I said, it was a little to late. Next time for sure. :blush2: Edited April 28, 2009 by Johnny E Quote
Peter Johnson Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 I had the great pleasure last night of seeing two of Reptet's three sets at Chris' Jazz Cafe in Philly, and also got to meet up with J. H. Deely and Mr. Johnny E as well! In short: GO SEE THIS BAND. Completely amazing. I can't remember the last time I saw music in a live context that literally made me laugh out loud with humor, and with amazement at the chops on display. These guys are GREAT; they're playing tonight in Brooklyn and I'd be there if I didn't have a bunch of work stuff back here in Philly in the morning. The writing and the arrangements are terrific, and these guys have a real sense of each others' space, to the extent that at one point, the trumpeter, trombonist, and saxophone players left the stand, walked around the room, and out the door into the street while John and the bassist kept the beat going; that worked well because there's a PA feed from the stand out into the street! Just a terrific evening of joyous music and fun that defy categorization. If there's any way you can see them, GO! At the end of the night, you may even know the answer to the question: "chicken or beef?" Thanks to you and your bandmates for a great night, John! Quote
Ron S Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 Peter, thanks for the report. So sorry I ended up having to miss this! Hopefully, they'll be back in Philly fairly soon. Glad you were able to meet up with Professor Deely. Quote
Chalupa Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 OH YEAH! Man what a great show! Last night was my third time seeing Reptet and this was probably the best show(and like Peter I only caught the first two sets) that I've seen from them. These cats are super tight and outta sight! Can't wait for the new vinyl. Nice to hang w/you Peter. Hope to see you at the Brötzmann show on Wednesday. I just want to encourage everyone in the NYC area to go out and see Reptet tonight. If you have other plans already change them. You don't want to miss this band. Seriously. Quote

Peter Johnson Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 Great to hang with you too, man. I just got my Broetzmann ticket online, so I'll keep an eye out for you tomorrow night. Well, you and "taper-man." Ron, how about it? Coming downtown tomorrow night? Quote

I second that for the saturday show in Brooklyn and the Sunday show at DROM in Manhattan. Smokin' stuff, lots of fun and I got to see Johnny E and meet the rest of the gang- real nice people. Quote
Johnny E Posted May 8, 2009 Author Report Posted May 8, 2009 (edited) Thanks to everyone for coming out and supporting us. Special thanks go out to Phil (Philly Q) who attended not one, but two shows (DROM and VOX POP)and bought the very first T-shirt. Next time we go east I promise to expand. South of the Mason-Dixon line fer sure. Edited May 8, 2009 by Johnny E Quote
