On my old hard drive I also found the earliest one from 2000 (I joined the BNBB in August 1999). Some fell for this I remember!

New Japanese BN Reissue Series!

As you may well know, the last Japanese RVG batch was released a week ago. There has been some speculation about what Toshiba’s upcoming plans are, a new RVG series, a reversion to the TOCJ series, or something else? Well, the answer has just come out now! In August Toshiba will release the first batch of a new series, which will consist of both previously released titles and previously unreleased titles from the 42xx and 43xx series. It will be called the OCDS series, with ‘OCDS’ standing for ‘Original Compact Disc Sound’. This new series will feature the original McMaster CD transfers, and titles not originally released will be remastered using the very same technology McMaster used in 1987. We all know abour the ‘replica’ mentality the Japanese have, and with the CD approaching 20 years of age, this probably had to happen sooner or later, although their decision will be controversial, at least among some people on this board.

But it isn’t only about cashing in on a budding CD era nostalgia in Japan. As OCDS series producer Yoshiharu Tanigawa says: ”We have had complaints both about the RVGs having too narrow a stereo spread, and about the recent high resolution transfers revealing too much of the audio imperfections inherent in the master tapes. Many feel that the classic CD releases gave a smoother, more pleasing listening experience. We believe that the OCDS series will offer the most satisfying solution to the differing tastes and demands of our customers.”

By 2003 the move had been made to Organissimo as the BNBB recently had closed down. However, I claimed that the BNBB was up again, linking to an archived copy ... and the thread nearly got deleted for advertising another forum!

The BNBB is back up again!

Further down you will also find links to archived copies of the old Verve board as well as Aric's Mobley Discography which was erased by some hacker, if I recall correctly.

By 2004 "copy protection" had been introduced on European Blue Note releases and was a frequent topic, but an even more draconic scheme was apparently planned for the US, including Mosaic sets...

Blue Note to introduce copy-protected discs in the US too

But then Sony came with its rootkit trojan, and after that it was clear that reality had trumped any industry-related news one could make up, so I called this litte tradition quits.
