Abution II Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 I am wondering whether there is any advantage to purchasing the Jazz in Paris box set (75 cds) versus picking up the titles piecemeal. Does it come with any literature that the individual discs do not have? Quote
couw Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 AFAIK there's nothing extra besides a big cardboard box with the Eiffel tower on it. You should note that there have been 25 additional titles issued. I would have picked it up had I known earlier that I would be spending so much on this series. The box was offered at a special price way back when this whole thing started. I didn't have the dough and I thought I could do with a dozen or so titles. Yeah, sure... make that more than even just a couple of dozen as we speak... Quote
Guest Chaney Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 (edited) I have the 75 CD (76** CD, actually),box which I purchased from Dusty Groove at a cost of $399. I've since seen it selling for as little as $299 -- I believe at Dusty Groove. What Avatar Master couw notes is true: No additional stuff when you buy this box. ** ON THE EDIT: BEING NEW TO THE WHOLE MATH THING ( ), JUST HAD ANOTHER COUNT AND THERE ARE INDEED 75 CDs IN THIS SET. Alec Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 Tony- I checked out Dusty Groove and I couldn't find the Jazz in Paris set listed. Amazon lists it for over $500. Anyone know where to find it cheaper? Thanks Quote
vibes Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 Best Buy has it on their website for $479.98: Jazz in Paris box Quote
Guest Chaney Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 I'm seeing the set listed on a few sites but all at $500+. The vibes-spotted listing may be the one to beat. While I haven't done an exhaustive search for prices on the individual CDs, it looks like each is now priced higher than in the past. That would account for the box costing more. GADS! The always-pricey Footlight Records is asking for $16.95 ( ) for the title I'm listening to right now! "Jazz & cinema vol. 3" Unfortunately, with this set having been released around sixteen months ago, the window of opportunity may have closed. Quote
bluesForBartok Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 Here it is for $449.94 at alldirect.com Quote
doubleM Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 There is an indy store here in Portland that has it for pretty cheap. If you want me to scope it out for you, PM me. Quote
vibes Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 I'm largely unfamiliar with this series. How is the variety, in terms of different styles? Sound quality? Is picking up this behemoth of a box worth the investment? Also, does anyone know of a website that contains a complete artist/track listing for the box? I haven't been able to find much information on this one. Thanks in advance. Quote
jazzbo Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 Vibes, have you seen this thread: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...?showtopic=4062 Extensive discussion of the series. I'm a big fan of this series. The sound is very good, or rather the remastering is very good, and the sound is varied by sources, most sounding very good indeed. A wonderful horn of jazz plenty! Quote
vibes Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 Many thanks, Lon. Would it be safe to assume that the first 76 CD's listed in king ubu's list are the ones that appear in the box? That list makes this box sound like a very worthwhile purchase, considering the amount of variety. Quote
bary01 Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 JAZZ IN PARIS the complete CD list Quote
neveronfriday Posted November 15, 2003 Report Posted November 15, 2003 Look what I bought for 199,- Euro!!!!! dumdidum (All good things come to those who wait....) Quote

We will have to wait until the 3rd of December to find out what the box consist of. Should me good, maybe it is the "Best off Jazz in Paris" Keep checking on www.amazon.fr Coffret 25 CD : Coffret de Noël Jazz In Paris - 25 CD qui racontent l'histoire du jazz au fil de la Seine - Edition limitée Artistes Divers Notre prix : EUR 139,93 Quote
brownie Posted November 15, 2003 Report Posted November 15, 2003 The 25CD box should include the remaining 25 CDs from the series which were released after the Big 75CD Box came out. Quote
Alec Posted November 15, 2003 Report Posted November 15, 2003 More money exiting my wallet oh well, my financial advisor told me to invest in CDs Quote

neveronfriday Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 Thanks Brownie! I'm not even through part of my 75 CD box yet, but because I got that one cheap, the 25 CD box just shot to place two of my Christmas list. Teddy Wilson (Mosaic) still holds first place. Cheers! Quote
Alec Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Has anyone seen this avail stateside? I can't find a listing anywhere except the amazon.fr site. Thanks Quote
Peter Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 I'm in the market for both of the Jazz in Paris boxes. If anyone knows a cheap source or has one for sale, please email me at petezwief@gdinet.com. Thanks. Quote
Peter Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 (edited) Thanks to Deus62, who hipped me to a set on ebay.de, I also acquired the 75 disc box for 199e (plus 40e shipping) or $301. A great price on what is, based on the 1st 4 discs, a great box. I've not seen the new 25 disc box anywhere? Can anyone out there suggest a source? Thanks. Edited January 16, 2004 by Peter Quote
Peter Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 In regards to the great debate 75 or 76 discs, there are indeed 75. Although there is a disc numbered 76, there is no disc No. 8 in the box. Quote
neveronfriday Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 No. 8 is the Chet Baker one which was apparently taken out for copyright reasons. But, it was still widely available the last time I looked. BTW: I also bought myself the last 25-CD set just after Christmas ... and just before they raised the price considerably on amazon.fr. Now it almost costs what I paid for the mint 75-CD set on eBay last year. I now have almost exactly one whole shelf-length of Jazz in Paris. Wonderful. Colourful. Cheers! Quote
