J.A.W.
CD Connection is cheaper and has more humaine shipping rates to Europe... CD Connection is not always cheaper than CD Universe; for instance, the hybrid SACD version of Thelonious Monk's Brilliant Corners is $19.98 from CD Connection and currently $17.09 from CD Universe (though that's the pre-order sale price; it'll be higher soon), while Paul Bley's Nothing to Declare is $15.02 from CD Connection and $11.89 from CD Universe. It's worth checking out though, since it's the other way around with other CDs and, like Д.Д. said, CD Connection's shipping rates to Europe are generally lower than CD Universe's rates. John B
Talking about Meta Records, I assume everybody has Spirits (http://www.metarecords.com/spirits.html) - a great release of Mr. Pharoah Sanders (in absolutely top form!) with Adam Rudolph (perc) and Hamid Drake? Yes! This disc is fantastic! Drake and Rudolph go way back and are very sympathetic to each other's playing. I thought I read somewhere that this had gone oop? John B
I'm looking forward to disc four, the Anatoly Vapirov material. Hopefully it is closer to discs one and two, which are fantastic. John, let us know what you think of Vapirov. I find the stuff on this disc pretty uneven. But better tracks are astonishing, so I think it's worth it. Will do. I'll probably listen to this one at work on Monday. Another highly recommended disc is Dennis Gonzalez Yells at Eels - Home. Yells at Eels is a trio with his two sons, both of whom play in a hardcore punk band, not that you would know it from this disc. I'm going to order more discs from Dennis directly as soon as my budget allows. I've really enjoyed the two I picked up this month.

Zappa CDs (that can be easily obtained through zappa.com). No mentioning about it gooing OOP in Meta site (updated several days ago) either. Forced Exposure and Jazz Loft (the store you get when you click on the "credit card order" link on the Meta site) don't have it, and The Music Resource site says "temporarily out" (which is their way of saying it's OOP), so I'm guessing it really is out of print. It's still listed on the "mail order" page on the Meta site, though. Edited April 25, 2004 by J.A.W.
Д.Д.
Hans, in case you are contemplating buying Spirits, be warned: there is quitre a bit of singing on it. Listened to Simon Nabatov - Han Bennink duo Chat Room (Leo, 2003) - excellent stuff. I was surprised to hear how compatible with each other Nabarov and Bennink turned out to be. Nabatov is more percussive and somewhat more economical than elsewhere (he's quite a voluble player). And Bennink - every time I hear him (particularly when he iswell recorded, as here) - I can't help but smile - the man is full of suprises. Bravo! Some Han Bennink artwork:

Anyone interested better get it now!

What would those Soviet psycho-analysts have said about that, I wonder... Soviet psycho-analysts would have said that the fact that you activated your order immidiately after reading the post proves the theory of "involvement through imposed controversy". They would have also prescribed prophylactic electric shocks and extended community works on the fresh Siberian air, if you continue being bothered by too many questions. John B
I just received a package from Jon yesterday with five discs which will almost complete my collection of Ersts. I picked up two of the new discs and three back catalog titles (including the recently back in print Particles and Smears by Kevin Drumm and Matrin Tetreault.) I'm looking forward to diving into this music tomorrow. I'll post my thoughts as soon as I have a chance. For anyone on the fence about ordering La Voyelle Liquide I read somewhere that Jon has in the neighborhood of five copies left in stock. It is probably still available through many distributors but, if you order multiple discs, the price direct from Jon can't be beat.

It is probably still available through many distributors but, if you order multiple discs, the price direct from Jon can't be beat. thanks, John. I only have two left now, actually, and anyone interested in ordering directly from me should do it quickly, because I'll be in Cologne/Berlin from May 3-20 at my AMPLIFY fest, so I can't fill orders after this week until I'm back. Chris Wolf will still be filling orders at ErstDist in the interim, though (http://www.erstwhilerecords.com/inventory/list.asp). someone asked about AMM some pages back: good places to start are Live in Allentown, Generative Themes, Newfoundland, Before Driving to the Chapel..., or Fine. they're probably best known at this point for their post-1980 trio incarnation of Rowe/Tilbury/Prevost, but their sixties incarnation with Cornelius Cardew is very different, much noisier, as captured on AMMusic 1966, the Crypt, and the first disc of Laminal, so another way to go is chronological. I'd stay away from the duo Gare/Prevost releases without Rowe, the new one on Anomalous and the previously released To Hear and Back Again. I also think that the Rowe/Tilbury double CD I released last year, Duos for Doris, is a good place to dive in, possibly the best release either of these two master musicians has ever been involved with, and the Erst release I'm the most proud of. anyway, I think it takes a handful of releases to get a good picture of what AMM are really about, one or two won't really do it. Guest Chaney
Just a reminder that the Brotzmann interview and the Chicago Tentet 2003 North Sea Jazz Fest footage is still available for your listening and viewing pleasure. Д.Д.
Yesterday night was listening to some beautiful stuff - Dave Burrell with Tyrone Brown - "Recital" (CIMP, 2001). Joyful, lyrical, witty piano-bass duo. I never knew I would enjoy hearing "Struttin' with Some Barbeque" and "Caravan" this much, and "Giant Steps" is simply hilarious. Edited April 26, 2004 by Д.Д. Д.Д.
According to CDUniverse, there are a couple of CD releases from up-and-coming progressive jazz saxophonists available starting from tomorrow: Albert Ayler - Comple Live At Slug's: http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...ic&frm=lk_jzmtz Eric Dolphy - Complete Memorial Album Sessions: http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...ic&frm=lk_jzmtz Now I understand that Ayler's Slug stuff was released on ESP/Get Back some time ago - was that not complete? And what's the Memorial Album - is this the Five Spot stuff? Some more nice future relases, according to jazzmtazz: Dave Burrell's Full-Blown Trio - TBD (High Two Recording) June — with William Parker and Andrew Cyrille. Cyrille -yes! New solo Paul Bley seems to be already available: http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...ic&frm=lk_jzmtz ! ...as well as Fracois Carrier quartet: http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...ic&frm=lk_jzmtz I don't know who Carrier is, but the rythm session of Bley-Beacock-Lambert looks not bad at all.
