Gigolo Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 (edited) Stumbled upon this: http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showthread....?threadid=50036 Edited November 7, 2003 by Gigolo Quote
David Ayers Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 (edited) Hm... what is this huge wad of cash in my pocket? Oh yes... it is all the money I save by not buying EMI Jazz CDs any more. To be more serious... I haven't yet seen any old titles with Copy Protection added, and I am waiting to see further confirmation. Edited November 7, 2003 by David Ayers Quote
king ubu Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Can someone provide a list of the RVG batches that are copy protected? While In Search of New Land and Mode for Joe certainly are, I don't think Sidewinder is!? At least it's not written on those I saw here (I still own the old CD only). ubu Quote
David Ayers Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 (edited) Uh... looks like ubu already confirmed it. It seems that new batches are having it added. Nice one. PS we should also note that gigolo's linked report from hi-fi.org seems to confirm that the copy protection system DOES impact on sound quality. Edited November 7, 2003 by David Ayers Quote
king ubu Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Uh... looks like ubu already confirmed it. It seems that new batches are having it added. Nice one. David, I think it started two batches ago, but I'm not sure, which is why I'm asking for a list... ubu Quote
David Ayers Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 I suspect that any list won't be very stable, since it depends on distribution and that will vary from country to country. It seems likely that they press fairly short runs and don't hold huge numbers in warehouses, so we can imagine that the tide is going to roll over us very quickly. Quote
king ubu Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 So this means I gotta run and pick up all not protected I can find!?!?! I rather stop eating and renting a flat yesterday than today... HELL! Why they do this!? Is there any place where one can make complaints about this shit? I mean, the salespersons in stores here don't even realize that they are not selling compact discs anymore but those darned... (neither do they realize what a piece of **** those definitive reissues are. They carry them, and they even sell them for full prizes... holy cow!) ubu Quote
couw Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 may I divert your attention to this thread? I would appreciate any insight into this. I listened on headphones (not the best in the world, but any headphones are more revealing of such click things as you shut out surrounding noise) and didn't hear a thing. My offer to send the copy I made to anyone interested still stands. Quote
Gigolo Posted November 7, 2003 Author Report Posted November 7, 2003 For anyone who dosen't want to read the link, a person supposedly from Croatia(?) says his "Sidewinder" is copy-protected. He dosen't say where he bought it from or when. Interesting how he says: '....Confusing is that I have these clicks just on those 3 CDs which are new re-releases, released in 2003 on Verve, who really care about good recordings....' A single source & maybe not the most reliable source, but prompted my original question. I don't want this copy-protected BS coming to the US either. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 I don't want this copy-protected BS coming to the US either. Hell no. I can't believe that people are protesting in the streets over this in Europe. Quote
brownie Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 Walked past the Virgin store on the Champs-Elysees avenue the other day. I never buy CDs there but went to have a look at what was available. They had the latest batch from BN releases. The made in EU copy-protected CDs (Hill's 'Passing Ships' and Morgan's 'Sonic Boom') were available at 15.46 euros. The US-imported copy-free CDs of the same titles were listed at 19,90 euros (some 23 US dollars). I have not noticed yet any of the old BN CDs with copy-protection added. Quote
Claude Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 Check www.amazon.de to see if a title is "kopiergeschützt". I haven't heard that the back catalogue is being replaced by copyprotected discs, but it would be logical. Quote
J.A.W. Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 (edited) Slightly off-topic: copy-controlled CDs are marked "CCCD" on some sites (Amazon Japan, HMV Japan) Edited November 18, 2003 by J.A.W. Quote

Claude Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 That's correct, ubu. I checked the EU-made "Sonic boom" in stores, it does not have the Copycontrol logo. Quote
king ubu Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 Thanks, Claude! Hell, the shop where I picked up the CCCD of Hill and Young for 15 CHF (around 10 Euros or 11$ - they usually go here for 33-36 CHF!! And I'll replace them in time by ordering from the US) - they did NOT have the only normal CD, the Morgan, of course! ubu Quote

'Sonic Boom' was not a copy-controller release. Quote
king ubu Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 Not a problem, brownie! I was just getting confused, because I never saw Sonic Boom here, yet! ubu Quote
