BERIGAN Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 As beautiful is it is there, I can't imagine wanting to spend any real time in that kind of cold....in almost total darkness for months. http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/11/s...antarctica.html Quote

Christiern Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Let me echo Chuck's post, but you should be making merry, Conrad...or something like that Although the Gulf Stream made Southwestern Iceland considerably more livable than Antartica, some of these photos gave me déjà vu. The aurora borealis was always spectacular, especially when it had movement, but the 24-hour darkness was depressing (there were window shades/curtains to make the 24-hour high noon sun less of a problem). Iceland's weather had a lot to do with my childhood decision to eventually go elsewhere, so I truly understand your sentiment. Thanks for the post. Quote

AndrewHill Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 Such a beautiful region...when you're looking at it from a nice warm house Quote
Late Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Really been enjoying those photos. Saved a number of them for my desktop. The time exposure shot of the "city" is especially intriguing. It makes it look like quite a number of people live there at any one time. I also remember reading — I hope I'm not making this up — that Diana Krall (?!) spent a New Year's in Antarctica on a ship, entertaining people who'd purchased tickets for something like $500. (Reading that, I now think my memory might be tricking me.) Quote
