dave9199 Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 I didn't use the book and got 13 right. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 I scored a 6 which isn't bad considering I don't own any Dolphy and I don't care for his music generally. I do have Coltrane's "Ole" and "Live at Village Vanguard," along with Hill's "Point of Departure." Well I guess I do own "Iron Man," though I have no idea who he dedicated that to. I respect him as a musician but he's not my cup of tea. Quote
John Tapscott Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Well, I took the quiz and got 10 right. I should have done better. I have the book and was browsing it last summer. But it's been years since I read it thoroughly. I do enjoy Eric's recordings with Booker Little. Quote
Z-Man Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Alan Saul (the host of this quiz) has a great Dolphy discography, as well as CD cover images, sound samples, interviews, and more: Dolphy Discography He also has other light reading such as: Effects of adapting on spatiotemporal receptive field structure in cat striate cortical simple cells Quote
Johnny E Posted November 7, 2003 Author Report Posted November 7, 2003 (edited) Nice to see you posting in a non-political forum, John. I read almost all the threads and I gain lots of knowledge (thanks everyone), but I do like posting in politics most of all. It's the one place that is always new. Most of the jazz questions were answered a few years back at the BNBB and a lot of discussions have started to repeat themselves. But there are many new board members so it's all good. btw, I won't share my score with ya'll. Pretty pathetic. But I never read the book, so.... Edited November 7, 2003 by Johnny E Quote
AfricaBrass Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 I only got 9 right. And I dig Dolphy. Quote
davef Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 6 right, no book, I like his flute and bass clarinet work better than the alto sax work. Quote

A lot of hard work was lost when Blue Note pulled the plug. Their board has been "off" for so long now, that I propose that we avoid it if it ever does re-start. One gets tired of moving house after doing it many times. (I have done it literally more times than I care to remember!) Quote
Late Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 Only 13 right. I guess I should have known Dolphy's favorite sammich. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 I only got 9 right. And I dig Dolphy. Same here. On both counts. Damn.... (In all honesty, I don't know how I got that many right. I just listen to the music, ya know?) Quote
