scottb Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 What happened to deepdiscoutcd.com?? I have been using them recently. Blue Notes to your door for under $10 is hard to beat. I went there today to order SONIC BOOM only to find they don't have the new Conns. Anyone know what's up with that? Anyway, where can I get the new Conns cheap? (I know about Half.com and Cheapcds. com) Quote
Free For All Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 I don't know if you know about it already, but I recommend CDUniverse. Good prices and service. It's the site that Alan Lankin's "jazzmatazz" site links to. Quote
Claude Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 Deepdiscountcd.com has become less interesting lately. I always check the prices at several US online stores and usually end up at CD Universe. One big advantage are their sale prices on preorders. They also have more options on ordering (ship when available or ship complete, combine orders, cancel orders). Quote
Morganized Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 If you are only interested in the recent releases, then Claude is probably right, CD Universe looks like the best. If you are looking for RVG's and earlier releases I would try alldirect.com. Prices are great, selection pretty good, and I have not been disappointed with the service. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 The latest Conns are on sale ($13.95) at The Music Resource. Just ordered SONIC BOOM yesterday. B) RVG's are currently at $9.95; shipping prices seem reasonable. Also picked up discs from Cedar Walton and David Hazeltine -- both less than $14 -- comparable to prices at CDUniverse. Quote
BruceH Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 I too would say CDuniverse if 10 people hadn't beat me to it. They've always done right by me, and if you don't live near a store like Amoeba, they're a good alternative. Never used The Music Resource. Maybe I should start. Quote
Brad Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 What Bruce and others said. Never had a bad experience with them and they're pretty prompt. Quote
wesbed Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Sonic Boom is available at Cheap-CDs.com for $14.41, including shipping and handling. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 As an experiment, I placed two orders, one with Cheap-CDs and one with CDUniverse. Both placed last Sunday. CDUniverse arrived today, so they win on speed. Plus, they use much better packaging for their shipping. Actual cardboard and everything! Now I just have to decide which CD to play first... Quote
montg Posted November 15, 2003 Report Posted November 15, 2003 The latest Conns are on sale ($13.95) at The Music Resource. Just ordered SONIC BOOM yesterday I haven't really had good luck with themusicresource...Twice I've had a long wait for things listed as "in stock". I ordered a Criss Cross (Wycliffe Gordon) from them 12 days ago. It was supposedly 'in stock' but the order is still in progress. And no replies to my queries. I'll never order from them again. Quote

Anybody have a good experience with The Music Resource? I placed an order on December 27 and my order is still listed as "incomplete." I emailed customer service a few days ago and never got a reply. Ya little whiner! Us REAL men wait WEEKS to get our orders from The Music Resource. B) When you order those "in stock" CDs, the scurrying then begins to actually make the "in stock" promise ring (clang?) true. Here's my last three orders which will give you an idea as to my success to failure rate -- and yes, each order took quite a while to arrive: Artist Title Media Price Qty Status MATT SHIPP HORN 4TET: STRATA Compact Discs $14.25 1 Invoiced MAT MANERI SO WHAT Compact Discs $14.25 1 Invoiced FRANZ KOGLMANN L'HEURE BLEUE Compact Discs $9.95 1 Invoiced LOREN MAZZACANECONNORS A POSSIBLE DAWN Compact Discs $14.25 1 Invoiced SAM RIVERS WINTER GARDEN Compact Discs $13.25 0 Unavailable CLUSONE3 CLUSONE 3: RARA AVIS Compact Discs $14.25 0 Unavailable JOEL FUTTERMAN MOMENTS Compact Discs $15.25 0 Unavailable Artist Title Media Price Qty Status BROTZMANN,PETER & GUEST DARE DEVIL Compact Discs $18.50 0 Unavailable Artist Title Media Price Qty Status 4TET TONARTSTRING 4 + 1 Compact Discs $13.25 1 Invoiced EVAN PARKER BROT & HONIG Compact Discs $13.25 1 Invoiced MALCOLM GOLDSTEIN MONSUN Compact Discs $13.25 1 Invoiced RAJESH MEHTA INNOVATIVE MUSIC MEET Compact Discs $13.25 1 Invoiced RAJESH MEHTA WINDOW SHOPPING Compact Discs $13.25 1 Invoiced VLATKO KUCAN LIVE AT PALO Compact Discs $13.25 1 Invoiced Actually, a pretty good success rate, I'd say. Ya little whiner! Us REAL men wait WEEKS to get our orders from The Music Resource. B) Unfortunately, my experience with The Music Resource wasn't much better. The order that I placed on Nov 6, for five CD's that were all "in stock", finally arrived more than three weeks later. I think I'm just spoiled by the standard set by Amazon, Buy.com, etc., where you order something and it arrives within a few days. As much as I *want* to like The Music Resource (IIRC, doesn't Jamey Aebersold have something to do with this company?), the time it takes for stuff to arrive is just unacceptable. After seeing many good recommendations, I just ordered a bunch of discs from CDUniverse yesterday. Prices were quite good, and I'm hoping to get this sometime before February!! Quote
Guest Chaney Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 Open up David. Share. Cleanse your soul. You'll feel better after a good cry and a group hug. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 (I'll NEVER use The Music Resource again....but I'll spare you the tale of woe). Do tell... Quote
Uncle Skid Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 (edited) up ...because I'd like to hear the tale of woe, too!! Other than having to wait way too long for "in stock" items, the prices and selection at the music resource seem quite good. Edited January 13, 2004 by Uncle Skid Quote
sheldonm Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 I've used them several times without any problems. I'm in the same state as they are, maybe that's why I get them a little quicker ....but really, I haven't had any issues to date with them but it appears many have, too bad as they have decent prices! That said, I've had great service with CD Universe. Mark Quote
Morganized Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 I have never used them but for now I am sticking with alldirect.com You have to enter the last name first when searching for an artist but their prices and selection are good. I usually save up and get the free shipping. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted January 14, 2004 Report Posted January 14, 2004 CDUniverse is great. Their shipping is superb, I live in the Binghamton, NY area and everything comes within a day and a half upon shipping. They've also had a few imports which is great. Quote
vibes Posted January 14, 2004 Report Posted January 14, 2004 According to the Music Resource page, my order shipped last night. That's roughly two and a half weeks after I placed the order. I'll have to remember to place my next order from them a few weeks before i actually want the music. Quote
alankin Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 If you want to help support Jazzmatazz, you could always order through CD Universe. Quote
marcoliv Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 i´ve been on alldirect.com website based on Morganized advise. prices are really great and when i was ready to place my first order.... they can't accept international orders i need to find a way to have a credit card issued in the US.... Muskrat Ramble Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 The various Amazon branches (.com, .de, .co.uk., .fr, etc.) ship worldwide. Quote
marcoliv Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 Musrkat, i know but if i do that directly, i have to pay just 100% of taxes Marcus Quote
