Tom 1960 Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 Lala: Oliver Nelson With Eric Dolphy - Straight Ahead Lovely disc, Tom! Got it used a couple of years ago from Reckless Records in London's Soho, a fine establishment now gone the way of most record shops. Happened to spot this at a local independent retailer recently. Maybe I'll stop by later today and see if it's still in stock. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 Lala: Kenny Dorham - Showboat Wow, what a real nice date. Dorham, Jimmy Heath, Kenny Drew, Jimmy Garrison and Art Taylor circa 1960. This is one of the great things about lala. Here's an album not easily available, at least not too affordable and you get to hear the album in it's entirety. If you want to shell out some extra bucks for the release, at least you know where you stand before you make the purchase. IMO, worth obtaining. Quote
Niko Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 some Mainstream albums on deezer John White - John White (could have aged better, but it's got saxophone solos from Hadley Caliman and Sonny Red...) up next: Gloria Coleman Ltd (with Ray Copeland, Ted Dunbar and legendary Tenor player James Anderson) Quote

Niko Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 my deezer discovery of the last week was Anais Records, a label that was apparently run in the eighties by Michel Petrucciani and artist Edouard Detmer... nice post bop albums, mostly by members of the Perucciani family... especially liked the Talib Kibwe, a quartet album featuring Bobby Few on piano and Loui's Blues by Louis Petrucciani, a quartet album with Horace Parlan on piano and (father) Tony Petrucciani on guitar... discography: (004 and 006 are not available) Louis Petrucciani - Loui's Blues. Anaïs Records 001 Talib Kibwe - Egyptian Oasis. Anaïs Records 002 Louis Petrucciani - The Librarian. Anaïs Records 003 Klaus Suonsaari/NHOP/Niels Lan Doky - Song Flower. Anaïs Records 004 Philippe Petrucciani - The First. Anaïs Records 005 Tony Petrucciani - Nuages. Anaïs Records 006 Louis Petrucciani - Mister Light. Anaïs Records 007 Quote

GA Russell Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 Bill, this is the first time I've heard more than one song of Raeburn's. I like him. The bio stated that his music was too modern for the major record labels, but to 2010 ears it doesn't sound experimental. Quote
