Niko Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 (edited) trying out lastfm Byard Lancaster - At MacAlester College Jon Eardley - Stablemates (seems they have a bunch of those spotlite cds) while the site is not particularly comfortable to use (and i think you can play every song only a few times?) they also have the recent uptown cds like the lucky thompson and dupree bolton and a bunch of nimbus west... including dadisi komolafe's hassan's walk which as i just see has recently been reissued) Edited April 16, 2009 by Niko Quote
Niko Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 Dodo Marmarosa - Pittsburgh 1958 (lastfm) worth it alone for hearing him call himself "MIKE Marmarosa" in the intro... those great vsop cds of west coast jazz are also on lastfm btw Quote

BillF Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 Sonny Stitt, New York Jazz (Spotify) (Not found much of interest on last.fm yet, Niko, but will keep looking.) P.S. Things are improving! I see last.fm has some Bob Florence albums I haven't heard. (A barren area on spotify and deezer.) Quote
Niko Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 what i really like about lastfm is that you can search by label... nothing in here for you? http://www.last.fm/label/Vsop+Records/albums http://www.last.fm/label/Uptown+Jazz/albums Quote
BillF Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 what i really like about lastfm is that you can search by label... nothing in here for you? http://www.last.fm/label/Vsop+Records/albums http://www.last.fm/label/Uptown+Jazz/albums Thanks, Niko! I can't wait to play the Allen Eager and Pepper Adams from the Uptowns. As for the VSOPs, I own all I want to hear. Pity they missed the Eddie Costa though, which I haven't got and have never heard. The Bob Florence albums that interested me proved to be a disappointment, as there were virtually no tracks for listening. (I guess I remain primarily a purchaser of albums and am using these sites to help me make more informed choices.) Quote
