bebopbob Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 (edited) amazon.co.uk lists a 11 May 2009 release date on this set. Hopefully this is a real release date! Edited February 23, 2009 by bebopbob Quote
JSngry Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 I'm guessing a reissue of this: http://www.amazon.com/Turn-Out-Stars-Vangu...s/dp/B000002MYU ? Quote
CJ Shearn Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 I missed this the first time. This will be cool. Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 (edited) O.K. not to hijack the thread or anything but I went looking for this release on amazon.co.uk and had a quick browse at their other recent Evans releases and found this, from the "JazzLips" label, perhaps a first, a double rip off!!!, the music from this, plus a few more songs from somewhere else; with the cover/art work from this; Now back to "Turn Out the Stars", would it turn someone who is indifferent to the Evans Trios into a believer??? king ubu Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 I've seen that boot - hilarious! Great session though, but I'd rather look for a used copy than getting the boot! As for your Evans question: the final Evans trio was quite different, much harder swinging than any of his earlier units, I think (though I am of the opinion that Evans swung, anyway, even in early years). I'm quite sure that any of his trio w/Johnson/La Barbera should convince anyone who's into good piano trio music, at least. I'd say give it a chance. But you might as well want to check out some smaller releases, instead of going for the box directly! Quote
John L Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 I'm guessing a reissue of this: http://www.amazon.com/Turn-Out-Stars-Vangu...s/dp/B000002MYU ? Thanks. I thought that maybe it was something new. This is a nice box set, although I actually much prefer recordings of this trio made earlier (Paris, London) and later (Keystone Korner). Quote
