Of all the reissues which have been called for over the years this one rarely gets a mention and I'm trying to figure out why. It's Wayne Shorter right so surely there is *some* call for it? So why does no-one ask for it, and why don't they do it?

Now the argument could be it is a bad record. But have people heard it? I've got the CC. Old timers will have the vinyl. Young whippersnappers will no doubt have leeched it off some site somehwere on the grounds they feel morally entitled to anything for free that they can't get in walmart for $4. So maybe y'all do know it and don't like it, or... what? OK it is rather 'cosmic' and hardly a key disk, but if it were Pharaoh Sanders it would have been out in Japan eight times by now. Clue me in - do the powers that be just see this as a dud? Do you?

limited yes, but not a connoisseur. it was part of the collector's choice series released around 1990. rather than being remastered and reissued, odyssey and other titles in the cc series were reprints of the initial release, except that the discs were white and blue rather than silver and blue.

incorrect, it was offered in the collector's choice series in 1990. rather than being remastered and reissued, i believe this title and others in the cc series were comprised of stock left over from their initial release (in odyssey's case, it was 1987).

I like it. Much stronger than 'Motto Grosso Feio' to my ears. I always thought that it, 'Motto' and 'Supernova' would make a nice 2CD set.

If it was a CC, then it has been reissued, when it was a CC.

So you're asking why don't they reissue it again? My guess is that it didn't sell well the first time.

And if it had, they would have reissued it again.

In many ways, this is my favorite Wayne album, period. It strikes me as almost operatic, a succession of arias which Wayne sings beautifully & passionately.

'Juju' is my favorite. Love 'Night Dreamer' and 'Infant Eyes' also.

Hey! Don't all try to catch me out on the re-re-issued thang! You know what I mean. Those original BN CDs came and went, as did the CCs (which were a once-only, non-reorderable issue) and the Shorter is like a few others which weren't around for long and these days hard to find. Current reissues in US and Europe are well-marketed and stay in the catalogue much longer. So I am wondering why it hasn't had any form of reissue *since* the CC days (remember a lot of CCs have been on our collective wish list over the years and some still are). I'm not aware of any Japanese issue either. Shorter is such a big name I am a bit surprised.

I've got mixed feelings myself about it but it is a special recording and, I would have thought, a must for Shorter fans and BN collectors.

See this thread for more on CCs, for those not up-to-speed on these issues.

PS there was Japanese issue - TOCJ 4363. A prize for anyone who has it. Send it to the address below for verification...

I've always prized this record because of what it reveals about Wayne's tenor playing post-SUPERNOVA, post-Miles, pre-Weather report (though isn't there some dispute on the actual recording date for both this and the session released as MOTO GROSSO FEIO?)... though I think of it more as a "tone poem" -- maybe I'm unduly influenced by the titles he gave the pieces -- but a tone poem with a strong narrative, one explicitly concerned with birth, becoming, being embodied.

I think this is the album a friend of mine recomended many years ago and I see vinyl copies from time to time. I think I'll head down to one of my locals tomorrow and see if they have a copy. The record usually goes for pretty cheap. I think when I see it in the store I become confused with it and a few others of similar vintage that have been mentioned on this thread so I end up not picking it up. Maybe I should actually right it down in my little notebook for an easier confirmation.

I heard this album once about twelve thirteen years ago. I bet my friend who owns it never listens to it anymore. I'm going to make him an offer on it.

I remember reading in the liner notes maybe... how emotional the vocalist became during the recording of one of the tunes. Is this the same album?
