I've been trying to track this one down for awhile now. AFAIK it is the definitive version of one of my favorite Coltrane titles. I'm fairly certain it has been OOP for some time.

I may have to break down and buy the domestic Rhino remaster soon if I don't locate the Japanese version. ONce again, the number of the release I am looking for is AMCY 1159. Thanks in advance for any leads...

Hans, if you have the japanese Coltrane Atlantics, what is you opinion on the remastering?

I think these are not so good recordings, or the tapes are in a bad shape (especially the "Bags and Trane" session). I have the "Giant steps" MFSL CD, and while it is improved compared to the box set it still doesn't sound nearly as good as most Prestige or Impulse! sessions.

I have several Japanese 20-bit K2 remastered EastWest Atlantic Coltrane CDs, and they're the best versions I've heard - they make these recordings a little more bearable than usual (I'm talking about the sound quality, not the music!). I had the MFSL CD of Giant Steps but sold it; it sounded dull compared to the Japanese version.
