Chuck Nessa Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Ah, marketing If you really wanted it you'd have it unless you have "funds restrictions". If money is a problem, you don't need any of these. Quote
David Ayers Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 Hey! We *like* having stuff marketed at us. It gives us a sense of belonging. Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 Is the Farlow the first of these joint Mosaic/Universal sets to go OOP, or at least on the verge of going OOP? Quote
ASNL77 Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 I think the Mulligan was the first one to go OOP. Quote
tranemonk Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 that sounds right... and from what I remember it went pretty fast..... I think the Mulligan was the first one to go OOP. Quote
Guest Bixieland Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 as well as the Bobby Hackett. Not sure what to expect with the latter but I couldn't see myself bother Mosaic for a mere $72!! The Hackett doesn't get a whole lotta love -- probably based on the heavy arrangements. I like the set, it's fun. It's somewhat "ultra-lounge," if you liked that series--though it's not as extreme and/or over-the-top and corny as that was. Slightly kitsch/very Gleason. Hackett, though, never disappoints. Quote
king ubu Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 Is the Farlow the first of these joint Mosaic/Universal sets to go OOP, or at least on the verge of going OOP? The Eldridge is OOP as well. Quote
sidewinder Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 My Lee/Christy set has just arrived in the mail - and no additional customs charge I'm pleased to say. Quote

J.A.W. Posted May 5, 2009 Author Report Posted May 5, 2009 (edited) Almost three months on and these three sets are still on the "Running Low / Last Chance" list. Sales must really be very low. Edited May 5, 2009 by J.A.W. Quote
J.A.W. Posted May 5, 2009 Author Report Posted May 5, 2009 Not for the Farmer/Golson set... No, that one went extremely fast once it was on the "Running Low / Last Chance" list, but I think that had something to do with the lease running out. Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Almost three months on and these three sets are still on the "Running Low / Last Chance" list. Sales must really be very low. Yes, I thought the Farlow would be gone by now, but I guess his sales figures are the same whether he's alive or dead. Quote
colinmce Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 If things go according to plan and finances open up, I'll be grabbing the Farlow in the next month. I hope I'm not too late, but I don't think I will be. Quote
BruceH Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Got the Lee/Christy during the Tower close-out sale a few years back. One of the very few that I didn't get direct from Mosaic. Quote
J.A.W. Posted August 14, 2009 Author Report Posted August 14, 2009 The Columbia Small-Group Swing set is gone. Quote
mellowT Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Took long enough. Would 6 months be a record (soon to be eclipsed by the other two still on the list)? Quote
colinmce Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 I've been waiting 'til the last minute to buy the Farlow. Looks like that might be at hand ... Quote
tranemonk Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Don't let it go by... I think you might regret it... It's one of my top 5!! :excited: I've been waiting 'til the last minute to buy the Farlow. Looks like that might be at hand ... Quote
colinmce Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 Arg, I don't know if I will make it. I have The Swinging Guitar and fell instantly in love with it, which made me want to get the box so bad. Here's hoping. Quote

I have The Swinging Guitar and fell instantly in love with it, which made me want to get the box so bad. Here's hoping. You know what? That's why I like this forum. I've bashed this Mosaic set a couple of times because it hasn't stuck with me yet, but several folks including yourself have mentioned how much they've enjoyed The Swinging Guitar, which starts on Disc 4. I will give it another listen. I came in cold with Farlow (as I've done with most Mosaic sets). Admittedly, I didn't like the Joe Pass set the first couple of times I listened to it. Now it's a top 10 favorite of mine. Quote
Free For All Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 I just caved and ordered the Farlow. Damn all of you and your positive reviews! It always seems to go like this: "Gee, I don't have much Tal Farlow in my collection. Well, I don't need the whole box, I'll just get The Swinging Guitar. Oh yeah, and This is Tal Farlow. And The Guitar Artistry of Tal Farlow. Hey, I can get them all plus other stuff on the Mosaic? Well, I might as well just do that then.......I'll actually be SAVING money!!*.........etc.etc." Game over. I actually got to jam with Tal Farlow once back in the 80s while on a SS Norway jazz cruise w/Woody's band. I'm not sure I realized how cool that was at the time. *ultimate rationalization alert Quote

The nearest I got was a personalised signed flyer with a nice friendly message on it that someone fixed up for me. He must have been a great guy. Good move re: the Farlow set. You would regret it I suspect if you hadn't bought it and it went OOP. Pergatory ! Edited August 25, 2009 by sidewinder Quote
Ron S Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 Lee/Christy is now in "Last Chance." Quote
