Soul Stream Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 I'm sure the most noteworthy quotes will be in the Jazztimes Before & After. Guess I didn't notice that this was for the JazzTimes Before & After....my bad. Look forward to reading it. Long live Lou, he's the greatest. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 I've seen Lou about 20 times and his set list and joke are usually the same, he can still play at top form. Chewy go catch him. You'll love it. Quote
sheldonm Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 I'm sure the most noteworthy quotes will be in the Jazztimes Before & After. I was at the Interview and it was amazingly candid and funny. It was done for Jazz Times and Howard is a contributor for DM so he's just showing a little courtesy for Larry. I asked Lou if it was his first time in Portland and he said "yes, I had to get a passport to get here". He was very friend....got a photo of myself with him....cool guy. m Quote
blajay Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 I saw Lou at the matinee today in Oakland. He was a great entertainer. His jokes were funny, but he was definitely not a clown. He was in top form on all tunes, especially Alligator Boogaloo. The band was great. The show especially showcased Akiko Tsuruga on organ. Holy shit! She was amazing. I bought a couple of her cds as a leader at the show--definitely check out anything with her as a sideperson or leader--she is a monster. Apparently she got her chops under the instruction of Dr. Lonnie Smith, and it shows. Quote
