tjluke68 Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 I was at at the Jazz Record Center in NYC recently, and noticed some new Blue Moon reissues. There was a Bennie Green LP that was originally out on Enrica, plus a Rocky Boyd CD (which Black Lion put out under Kenny Dorham's name), 3 Jack Quigley Trio CDs (I'm trying to find a different release that I have that's quintet and was on red vinyl), plus a few others that I can't remember... Anyone have these on CD and wish to comment? I was low on cash and failed to pick up any.... Quote
mikeweil Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 If you enjoy Bennie Green's Blue Note, Prestige, Time and Bethlehem LPs the Enrica is for you - have the old Fresh Sound LP reissue. Green was pretty consistent in those years and Jimmy Forrest and Sonny Clark were ideal sidemen for him. Quote
jazzbo Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 These have actually been out for a few years (at least the Green and Boyd have been) on Blue Moon. The Boyd is very good; mellow and swinging date. Wonderful Grant Green. I've not seen or heard the Quigleys. . . . Quote
Claude Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 For those who don't know it, her is the Blue Moon homepage with a complete listing: www.freshsoundrecords.com Quote
JSngry Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 I really like the Boyd (which Muse also put out under Dorham's name, in the 70s, as EASE IT). He's an interesting player with a distinctive sound. Not a "heavyweight" or anything like that, just somebody with a little something different. And KD is in excellent form, so it's a "can't miss" as far as I'm concerned. Quote
BruceH Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 That Bennie Green sounds good.... Quote
