Guest Bixieland Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Which Mosaic would you grab first if the flames were reaching the stash? Quote
Uncle Skid Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Well, let's hope that flames never hit the stash! But if they did, I'd grab the Braxton and the Andrew Hill sets. Quote
Free For All Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Fortunately my stash is in an entirely different location than my Mosaics. Quote
wesbed Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Fortunately my stash is in an entirely different location than my Mosaics. Tee hee hee. Quote
sal Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Although Im tempted to say the Braxton because I've been listening to it so much, I'd still have to go with the Jazztet, which remains my favorite Mosaic. Its such a rich, varied set, with so many of the songs full of surprises. Its music that sounds so fresh, and its enjoyable as all hell. It enriched my world. Quote
jlhoots Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 McLean If I could get 2, the other would be Mobley. Quote
sidewinder Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 It would be a toss-up between the Basie Studio Roulette and the Mobley LP set. Not an easy decision. Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 As I keep the CD cases out of the boxes and as both the Mobley and the Tristano, Konitz and Marsh sets come in those old style large cd cases, I think I could manage to grab both. But then I'd miss the booklets so I'd probably risk the burns to go back and get them. Quote
poetrylover3 Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 My Mosaics are nestled right next to the stereo which made it easy to grab the Count Basie/Lester Young and The Basie Live Roulette sets. Neither set would be easily replaceable. Going up in flames: The Complete Blue Note Thelonious Monk (vinyl) and The Count Basie Clef/Verve Studio recordings. The collection of Mosaic Box Sets is small, admittedly. I'd also try to scoop up my Mosaic Selects and...You get the picture, I'd probably get burned trying to decide what sets to move, period. My idea of a Desert Island set is about fifty box sets and single discs so I'm just hoping to avoid fire and shipwreck in this lifetime. Peace, Blue Trane. Quote
tranemonk Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 my external hard drive which has EVERYTHING burned to digital files.... and then probably the Elvin Jones & Anita O'Day at the same time... Quote
jazzbo Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Today I'd say the Parker, though it's the only one that Mosaic "owns." Bit it's not available elsewhere, this material. It's a definite favorite. Incredible set in all ways. Quote
martini Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 Today I'd say the Parker, though it's the only one that Mosaic "owns." Bit it's not available elsewhere, this material. It's a definite favorite. Incredible set in all ways. I just picked up the Benedetti/Parker Mosaic a few weeks ago. I wasn't sure if a set of fragments would be a good listen, but I already had the CP Savoy/Dial and Verve sets, so I figured that it was time to take the plunge. I'm shocked at how good this set is. Listening to the set for a few hours in a row is like standing too close to the sun. It is brilliantly hot. The booklet is the best that I've come across in the 14 big box Mosaics that I own. Quote
paul secor Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 Tossup between the Herbie Nichols, Cecil/Neidlinger, and the Bud Powell - the first two for the notes in the booklets, and the Bud for the photographs in the booklet. If the H.R.S. were out of print and it would be difficult to replace, that would be my choice for the music. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 If I had to grab something, it would be the John Patton. I've loved that music for forty years and couldn't be without it. And, since it's with the other Patton CDs, I'd grab them, too. (I'd leave the TOCJs of what's in the Select behind, though ) Yes, I know I could buy another copy (at present). MG Quote
Guest Bixieland Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) Capitol Jazz Classic Capitol Jazz Sessions It's probably not my "favorite" but...I would grab it first, I bet. Then the Venuti/Lang, then Chu...of course the Bix/Tram... Edited February 5, 2009 by Bixieland Quote

jazzbo Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 They did add a nice silver lining to this booklet. . . quite appealing. Quote
