He sings the song that cannot be escaped.

Wow, that's like a bad Paul McCartney song w/o the Beatles back story to give it even half a hope of having even some kind of even contextual merit...

Or else it's this generation's Norah Jones, only without an attractive woman and a beguiling voice...

Whatever it is, you just think it can't be escaped. Watch me now.

HEY!

See, now you can AVOID Saturday Night Live.

As if you weren't already!

I mean. . . is anyone still a Steve Martin fan? And I mean. . . another mangled Pink Panther remake?

And I mean. . . another mangled Pink Panther remake?

I just saw the previews for that the other day. I honestly thought it was just an ad for the dvd of the first Martin PP flick, not realizing they'd done yet another. The first one was painfully bad.

Peter Sellers must be spinning in his grave.

And I like Steve Martin in general - though he's past his Sell-By date.

Yeah, its pretty astounding that the first one did enough business to get a second one made. I think maybe this weekend I'll travel back in time and watch the Martin hosted episodes of the SNL Season 3 DVD set that I got for Christmas.

I'm not sure if the "wild & crazy guys" weren't funnier in my memory, but I always enjoyed Theodorick of York, Medieval Barber. :g

This'll probably confirm that I'm an old fart, but I quit watching SNL decades ago. It seemed to become unwatchable in the early-mid '80s; "jumped the shark" way before the term was even invented. Being a regular on the show does seem to be more or less a prerequisite for Hollywood comedy stardom, which may say something about the originality of Tinseltown suits...

I also enjoyed "Theodoric of York". And Garrett Morris as a butler, announcing "Lord and Lady Douchebag" (as guests at a party for eponyms such as the Earl of Sandwich), sticks in my mind for some reason.

Have heard Jason Mraz on the car radio (not a lot of options in a rural area), wondered if he was related to George, but figured "no way."

Wow you guys were starting to scare me for a minute until I realized you'd never heard him. He's actually quite popular...a lame singer psuedo-hipster in a trucker hat from San Diego. A lot of people love him...but I assumed around hear you wouldn't be duped. I thought Steve Martin was funny when he hosted the oscars a few years back, so I'll check him out. But Jason Mraz..don't get me started.

I was watching some DVD's of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson at the beach this past weekend and one of them included an early appearance by Steve Martin. Back in the day, his arrow-through-the-head bit and other similar routines were pretty funny. Now, not so much.

As to the Pink Panther remakes, give me a break. I know Hollywood is desperately short of new ideas, but there are things that should be declared off limits. One of those "things" is the Pink Panther franchise. No one will ever come close to Peter Sellers, period, end of story, so don't even try. I have to think that the Martin takes are a cheap and tawdry attempt to cash in with a younger audience that is probably oblivious to or uninterested in the originals.

Up over and out.

Call me crazy, but I liked Alan Arkin's Clouseau a lot.

Martin's been doing his best work in smaller, cameo roles these days. He was very funny in "Baby Momma" last year or on his bit on "30 Rock."

And if that's the Mraz song I was reading about recently, he actually left it off his album a few years ago because he didn't think it was any good. But then he started performing in in concert and the demand grew (first in Europe I believe), and he was finally compelled to release it. And now it's up for a Grammy. So add this to the list of things to blame the French for. :g

Sounds like he's not-so subtley cashing in on / ripping off this guy's version of Over The Rainbow.

As for Steve Martin, The Jerk is one of the best movies ever made but he really hasn't been funny since he started doing those Parenthood movies.

Didn't he have a dog called "Shithead" in The Jerk?

I've always liked Steve Martin- when I was in college in the 70s he was doing his standup tour, definitely a rock star for a minute.

But for the life of me I have no idea why he would want to try to redo anything Peter Sellers did.

Hey, maybe Jim Carrey could redo Being There!

Kevin James in The Party?

I loved L.A. Story...but that's been quite awhile ago. The only recent films I've seen him in that I really liked were "The Spanish Prisoner" (1997) and "Shopgirl" (2005).

Bowfinger had it's moments as well.
