Enjoyed the few I've read - good, tense thrillers.

Of course, if it's 'American letters' you are seeking, then look elsewhere....

I've read most of his books. The early ones were okay, but either he's coasting at this point, or there's just so much you can come up with in legal drama.

Most common coversation between two Grisham fans:

Fan #1: "Have you read the new Grisham book?"

Fan #2: "Yeah."

Fan #1: "How is it?"

Fan #2: pause. "Well, it's not The Firm."

Fan #1: "Yeah". Group sigh follows.

Whenever I read a Grisham book I appreciate the fact that he's a skilled writer. His prose is deft and relatively graceful. That's not at all true of many best-seller authors (Dan Brown being only the most egregious of a bad lot).

That said, the content is not always memorable. I'm reading Michael Chabon's "The Yiddish Policeman's Union" right now--now there's a real writer, with imagination and originality as well as serious chops.
