bebopbob Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 How is the sound quality/remastering quality of the Ahmad Jamal Complete Pershing, Alhambra, Blackhawk and Spotlite Club recordings that have been reissued in Europe as well as the Naked City Theme/Extensions and Happy Moods LPs that have been reissued on Jazz Beat? I have "Cross Country Tour: 1958-1961" and "Ahmad's Blues" which MCA/Universal released on CD about 10 years ago. I love this music and want more but I've given up on Mosaic reissuing the Ahmad Jamal Argo/Cadet LPs on CD. Quote
JohnS Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 The Spotlite set is in good sound. There are three tracks tagged on the end and I recall these being inferior. need to play the disc to make sure though Quote
jazzbo Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Happy Moods sounds EXCELLENT. I have had an lp copy for decades, and it's very noisey. The cd sounds so sweet! Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 (edited) I have this issue of the Spotlite recordings, which I think is the same one John S is talking about and I would agree with his review, right down to the fact that I don't remember too much about the 3 studio tracks, but the live stuff sounded fine. Hopefully the Mosaic Box wil be available later this year.Don't be fooled by the "Complete" tag put to this material. For instance the Pershing dates have 43 unissued titles many of which Jamal has given his consent to release. The Mosaic Box will have 8 or 9 Cds depending whose telling it. Quote
mikeweil Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 "Complete" in the case of the Iberian reissues means all that's previously issued - no vault material here. Quote
