wesbed Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 Here's one for fans of Mobley and Morgan's PECKIN' TIME: Man, I don't get it. Peckin' Time and a picture of an alien being (for lack of a better term) in a toilet? It seems kinda funny and kinda creepy but, no, I don't really get it. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 Man, I don't get it. Peckin' Time and a picture of an alien being (for lack of a better term) in a toilet? It seems kinda funny and kinda creepy but, no, I don't really get it. I wasn't playing off the title as much as I was playing off the image of the tape case on the cover. It's more in the Monty Python vein than Couw's thematic avatars. It's not an alien. It's James T. Cat (or Cat Shatner) as a kitten getting into the trouble that young 'uns do. Quote
Big Al Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 How about converting The Cape Verdean Blues to The CAT Verdean Blues? Or change Little Johnny C to Little Johnny CAT? Might also be fun to take Horace's Finger Poppin' and have him drive by in the car. Or how about putting James T. Cat's face on the dog on Jimmy Smith's Back at the Chicken Shack? Might also be cool to take the little red balls on Larry Young's Unity and have 'em fall into the U. How about a little typewriter action on Jackie McLean's Right Now? Or how about, on It's Time!, have all of the exclamation points fill themselves in on the cover. Have the title of Joe Henderson's In 'n Out draw itself on the cover? Just some ideas when I should be falling asleep...... Quote
AfricaBrass Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 Great ideas, Al! I think about them as I fall asleep. Quote
Dan Gould Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 as promised, here's the alternative ending. I don't have a decent James T Cat lying around so I had to resort to someone else. Hope you like it Dan. More detail: Lou Donaldson - Here 'Tis! John, great work, and thanks for acceding to my request! I feel bad for having lost track of this thread and only seeing the "sammitch" now. Quote
couw Posted November 19, 2003 Author Report Posted November 19, 2003 idea came from Big Al: Big one: click here (210 Kb) Quote
couw Posted November 19, 2003 Author Report Posted November 19, 2003 I also did a version of Jackie's Bag, but it is WAY TOO BIG to post here. I have already thrown some frames out (records spins no longer ) and reduced contrast and whatnot but to no avail. So here's a 200x200 version: click (390 Kb) Quote
Dan Gould Posted November 19, 2003 Report Posted November 19, 2003 You keep outdoing yourself, man! Those last two are awesome! Quote
Big Al Posted November 19, 2003 Report Posted November 19, 2003 idea came from Big Al: Big one: click here (210 Kb) PRECISELY what I had in mind! The arrow through the "O" is a sweet touch! Quote
couw Posted November 19, 2003 Author Report Posted November 19, 2003 PRECISELY what I had in mind! The arrow through the "O" is a sweet touch! I had a tune in my head while making this one, that may explain the "sweet touch" You know, FZ's Stick it Out (Aber beklecker nicht das Sofa, Sofa! ) Quote
Gigolo Posted November 19, 2003 Report Posted November 19, 2003 I like the ones without the damn cat or the 'poof' better. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted November 19, 2003 Report Posted November 19, 2003 I like the ones without the damn cat or the 'poof' better. Well I like the ones with the cat. Couw's new avatars are great! Quote
couw Posted November 20, 2003 Author Report Posted November 20, 2003 (edited) Another one as suggested by Big Al. Of course I was being lazy at first and made this one: I had to admit it was a pretty lame attempt. It's only for people too young to know or too old to be able to remember those glorious days of the type-writer where the text simply didn't start at the top and builds downward, but was rather created at the same spot over and over again, the previous thoughts making way for fresh and new ones (cool couw, this philosophical treatise on the type writer... ) Anyhow, I came up with this: of which you may find a big version here (click) (390 Kb) As I had all the letters cut out I thought it a waste not to put them to use, so I sort of polished up the above "classic" version with a more modern re-iteration of the message. ...and a big one of the above can be seen here (click) (540 Kb) You will have to imagine the noise yourself though. I hope you like it anyhow. Edited November 20, 2003 by couw Quote
Dan Gould Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 I love it, but what would have been even better would be a typo, like "Crenshaw", followed by a dab of white, like white-out, and the correction being typed over. Quote
couw Posted November 20, 2003 Author Report Posted November 20, 2003 howzabout you do a course in Photoshop Dan and show us how it's done? :g Seriously, I have actually been toying with that idea but it was late and blahblah... The tag on Jackie's Bag is more obvious & more fun in that respect. You gotta love the irregular timings between the letters though Quote
Parkertown Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 (edited) Couw, I'm totally blown away by your rendition of Jackie's Bag! Could please please post the large version on YOUR OWN webpage like all the others? I think it may be my favorite. You need to get the job for the next Blue Note screensaver! Thanks for everything! Edited November 20, 2003 by Parkertown Quote
marcoliv Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 Couw, once again, bravo for all your creative output!! Blue Note should hire you to sell their cd´s with animated covers!!! Marcus Oliveira Quote
Claude Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 Blue Note should hire you to sell their cd´s with animated covers!!! Blue Note should put couw's animated covers on the data section of their european copyprotected CDs. It would be the only reason to buy those CDs. Quote
