AfricaBrass
I'm almost afraid to ask someone to animate my avatar... B) I'll do it, but I've got a few in line, in front of yours, that I'm working on.
mikeweil
When are you going to rinse off the cream off that lady's body? And then mutate in to the wildcat?
AfricaBrass
Tony, Here's your Thad Jones avatar. I was going for the concept of the jazzman's life and the whirlwind of NY in the early 50's. It starts off with the regular cover and then goes to 52nd street at night. I hope you like it! Joe G
hey, is rooster re-organising his already posted messages again?? So it's not just me? Is this thread stuck in some kind of bizarre time loop? Re-animated, in other words?

couw
'nother lazy weekend, so here's some more! I did a Thad Jones too. I really like the one Jeff made. I of course had to make it much too difficult for myself and had to restore the entire background of the street, including the lettering of the theatre just behind Thad. Only then did I notice there is a lady standing behind him as well! You can only see part of her dress and her shadow. I got rid of her. Sorry for that. Further I focussed on the idyllic part with the pigeons and that gave me the opportunity to include another cover that would otherwise never have made this series. The big one can be found through this link: The Magnificent Thad Jones (490 Kb)
couw
As I had Lou walking graciously anyhow, I thought I might as well have him do this: and as usual, there's a big one: Lou Donaldson - Light Foot (490 Kb)
couw
and a return to basics with this one. It should have been part of the first series... Big one: Hank Mobley - No Room For Squares (510 Kb)
couw
for all our organ freaks (there was a request for this one I believe): watch his hands move in more detail here: Jimmy Smith - A New Sound, A New Star (vol. 1) (250 Kb) Edited November 10, 2003 by couw
Claude
Brilliant (as usual) John, but where is the cat? What I find amazing about your covers is that fact that with my limited knowledge in graphic manipulation I cannot guess how you did this. Like with a perfect magician. couw
#Rooster Tom asked twice for this one. I am really anxious to see Africa Jeff's take on it, as he promised he'd do one. FWIW, here's mine. It turned out rather dreamy. To confuse Rooster Tom even more, I left out the BN logo completely (and BTW, it took one click on "auto-levels" in PhShop to make the colours look like they turned out on the second cover Rooster posted. Go figure. It has to do with optimising the spectrum of hues/contrast/brightness of a pic, but it will not keep such beautifully toned pictures like this one intact. So I clicked "undo" immediately) In all its glory, it can be found here: Herbie Hancock - Speak Like A Child (470 Kb) Edited November 10, 2003 by couw
couw
I didn't actually know how to end the little romantic scene above. It turned out rather nice I think with the girl fading and the guy returning to his pose of reminiscing. Here's another ending with more of a fairy tale character. AfricaBrass
John, Those are fabulous covers! I even like your Thad Jones better than mine. I did the same thing and worked too hard on it. It lost a lot when made into avatar size. I know this isn't your profession, but if you came to me for a job, I'd hire you. Great work!
