AfricaBrass Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 I think I need help. I LOVE IT!!! I'm glad you like it! I guess it was too many years of watching Monty Python for me. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Do I need to up the allowed avatar file size? Jim, I wouldn't complain. It's tough to make these things 20k and smaller. But I don't want to use up your server space. Thanks again for having such a fun board! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 It's now 40k. That should give you some wiggle room. Quote

Jim R Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 (edited) I hope Rooster won't mind my posting this- just wanted to illustrate what I was talking about: ======= Oops. Looks like I can't (or don't know how to) do this... Edited November 7, 2003 by Jim R Quote
couw Posted November 7, 2003 Author Report Posted November 7, 2003 I think I need help. SPONGEBOB! I knew HE would pop up sooner or later! I am currently re-organising my web space. Will be back soon with another one. And Good Gracious! it's a good one (if I may say so...) Quote
couw Posted November 7, 2003 Author Report Posted November 7, 2003 It's now 40k. That should give you some wiggle room. HEY! Do you know how much trouble I went through making these things <20K ??? At least I know how al this file optimising features work now. :rsly: Quote
couw Posted November 7, 2003 Author Report Posted November 7, 2003 John, your avatars are GREAT! What program are you using to create your avatars? I'm using Photoshop 7 and Imageready, but your avatars look sharper to me. Same here. I make them on original size of the cover scans (500 px sq) first though and downsize them only afterwards. Most of the detail is of course lost through that, but it does somehow still show. I for instance created an entire "empty & lighted" wall for the Judgment cover, re-created Hubbard trumpet (a prize to the person who finds out where I borrowed it, and put a lot of work into Lou's grassy knol & woods. I am uploading a more detailed version of the latter now, just to show off Quote
Dan Gould Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 HEY! Y'all have missed the obvious LD cover! You need to animate the "Here 'Tis" cover so that Lou actually hands off that "sammitch" to the guy as he strolls across the cover! Quote

Rooster_Ties Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 I hope Rooster won't mind my posting this- just wanted to illustrate what I was talking about: ======= Oops. Looks like I can't (or don't know how to) do this... In a PM, I asked AfricaBrass to cook up an animated .gif for me with all of Andrew Hill's classic BN covers. And (the kicker) he had to compress it down to less than 20,000 bytes (the Avatar size limit on AAJ). He's such a great guy - he did just that, and bam - now I'm a walking advertisement for Andrew Hill over on AAJ. The "Hill covers" slide-show is only 75x75 pixels, instead of 100 --- in order to keep the thing under 20,000 bytes. Nothing special about the AAJ board software - they accept pretty much only the same kind of Avatars there as here. Just a matter of getting one of these animated gif magicians to cook one up for me. Thanks AfricaBrass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -- Rooster T. PS: He also made me a smaller one, only 60x60 pixels: Quote
couw Posted November 7, 2003 Author Report Posted November 7, 2003 check out the big one here: Lou Donaldson - Good Gracious! Dan should be happy. I took Poppa Lou's face out of the Here 'Tis! cover and paster it on Good Gracious Lou. I like how the subtle nod of the head as he approaches the dame came out. Quote
DrJ Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 (edited) You are a bloody genius! I wonder if someone might be able to do an animation for this one, a favorite BN cover (and album) of mine: Edited November 7, 2003 by DrJ Quote
couw Posted November 7, 2003 Author Report Posted November 7, 2003 (edited) I updated the large Blues Walk version. It has more detail now. Lou Donaldson - Blues Walk (540 Kb) I slowed down some of the other files. Please refer to the initial post. Mike, there's a slower version of the Flip as well, the girl takes a lot longer between the flips: The Flip Scott, same goes for Unit Structures: Unit Structures Edited November 7, 2003 by couw Quote
Clunky Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 what can you do with "Good gracious" ?? excellent Quote

I actually was thinking about how cool it would be to have a "day in the life of LD" avatar. Another thought would be to create a walk through town avatar containing a bunch of covers from different BN artists. Good suggestion, guys! Quote
AfricaBrass Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 You are a bloody genius! I wonder if someone might be able to do an animation for this one, a favorite BN cover (and album) of mine: Tony, I'll do it. But, you know it isn't going to be as nice as the avatar you already have. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Seems like "Speak Like A Child" would be perfect for a little animation. The guy is standing there by himself, and the gal walks into the frame from the far right side. She's a bit coy, and stands there a second (near the far right of the scene), before rushing to her beloved... ...for a little smooch!!! ( Never realized until now that the original album had a Liberty-era logo, and notice the ground at the very bottom on the LP?? - and how it's not there on the CD version. Damn revisionist historians!! ) Quote

Yeah, now that I have TWO versions of Lou walking ready for use in PShop, this should be rather easy (little effort, lot of fun). Pity the PShop files are so big. I will see if I can downsize them a bit and then put them up so others can use the walking Lous I did. Quote
