brownie Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Both complete sessions are included in this recent release: Another excellent reissue from FreshSound! Quote
Brownian Motion Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 This is a good one. I understand Dick did a couple of other albums for Concord. I hope they're reissued sometime soon. Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) Or this one? (I think Garth has.) Snapped up an original of this one a couple of years ago on eBay and liked it a lot. Modernized 50s cool-school swing a bit like Al Cohn on alto, with maybe a hint of Lee Konitz thrown in (Dick Johnson is his own man, though, but this should broadly describe his stylistic position within the 50s jazz styles). Been a while since I listened to it, so thanks for the reminder! Edited January 20, 2009 by Big Beat Steve Quote

Peter Friedman Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 Dick Johnson plays on this this one, Woody Herman Presents , Volume 1...A Concord Jam - Concord Jazz CCC-4142 and on this one, Dave McKenna - Cookin' At Michaels Pub - Prevue 26 (CD), was originally on a Halcyon LP Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 A name so nice, he has to use it twice. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 I bet John Thomas is a sideman on one of these. Quote
Chas Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 (edited) I bet John Thomas is a sideman on one of these. Must have been filling in for Dick Kniss Edited January 21, 2009 by Chas Quote
