Now the funny thing is, I didn't think that was funny.

Ah well - only the 2 of us then.

Yes, it was Jimmy Smith on that picture - the 'Extensions' is on that cool 'Jazzy '67' poster on the other side of the inner liner, along with 'Blue Spirits' and one of Sam Rivers' LPs ('Contours'?).

Am I correct that the "Always Something There" Blue Note LP was reissued on CD in 1991 by Fantasy/OJC?

If true, can someone explain the circumstances? I have read that there was also a CD reissue on EMI's Applause label: apparently a poor-sounding needle-drop. Are the Fantasy and Applause releases actually the same CD? Was Fantasy just the distributor?

Thanks in advance for any explanation.

John

that link is the Applause version, OJC wouldn't have the rights to this one.

I only have an LP rip of this one, I don't think it was ever reissued in the states...not sure about Japan.

Without wishing to be conspiracy-theoretical about it, I think I'm remembering correctly that Sidewinder, Search for the New Land and Caramba were all Morris Levy-assigned copyrights. And these are the three charting albums. Go figure, as they say.

No doubt Bertrand can confirm or deny.

And Lee Morgan is better than Hugh Masekela!

So, if you're seventeen or whatever and get an album because it's got one of those hip dance "Sidewinder" type riff numbers at the start, what the hell do you do about the other tracks?

Let the one side finish and never turn the record over?

Morris Levy was a 'bad' man. No irony intended
