EKE BBB Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 (edited) Thelonious Monk - Underground (Sony reissue) How´s that one, brownie? I saw it on the fall TrueBlue Music catalogue. One of my undiscovered Columbia Monk discs! Edited November 7, 2003 by EKE BBB Quote
brownie Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Get it! It's late Monk. But great. The only thing I don't like about the reissue is what they did to the cover (one of the classic jazz record cover ever). The reproduction is just awful. It looks shitty brown now. I'll keep the original LP just for the cover photo of machinegun-carrying Monk playing the piano somewhere in World War II France. With plenty of near empty bottles of what look like excellent Bordeaux wines. And a nazi prisoner plus a Resistance belle in background. And the reissue does justice to Monk's music. Charlie Rouse is beautiful on that one. His contribution was somehow damaged on the original issue (Teo Macero did a butcher job on that one). Quote
