trane_fanatic Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 (edited) in the Hudson yesterday? Surreal or what? Edited January 16, 2009 by trane_fanatic Quote
Dan Gould Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Chris A. was facing in the wrong direction. I still can't believe its taken a day for someone to start a thread about this mind-boggling incident. Quote

BruceH Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 I watched about two hours of news coverage last night. Amazing that no one was killed. Quote
papsrus Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 Whatever that pilot did -- from start to finish, every decision and maneuver -- should be mandatory study in flight schools. Best line I've read about the guy: "I'd say he puts his pants on more than one leg at a time." Quote
JSngry Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 This guy is a true hero. And the way the way the whole affair went down speaks volumes to the benefits of individuals and organizations spending the time and money to train and otherwise get people ready to handle the unlikely and/or unexpected. Too much of American life, personal and business, is geared towards playing the odds, with an eye towards anything else being viewed as a "luxury" or something "we don't have the resources for" or something like that. This incident shows that, yea, sometimes things do go wrong, and that yes, having people and procedures in place who are well-prepared for when they do does make a difference. When the shit hits the fan, proactivity beats reactivity damn near every time (sic)! Whether or not the positive principles displayed throughout this event proves a symbolic prelude to the upcoming change in administrations remains to be seen, but god, one certainly hopes so. Quote
7/4 Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 I share an office with an idiot with a TV. On Thursday afternoon at 4pm, he was fascinated by the news coverage of this event. On Friday, he was pissed off because a news conference by Mayor Bloomberg was preempting Jerry Springer. dB Quote
paul secor Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 Wasn't that interested in watching all the coverage, but read in the paper that Vince Carter of the N.J. Nets saw the plane in the water from his apartment in Weehawken, N.J. Quote
Christiern Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 He actually saw the plane land on the water, and is very impressed with the pilot. Quote
GregK Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 pretty amazing seeing it "docked", as it is now, in some of the pictures. must have been an incredible sight to see in person Quote
Chalupa Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 What I find amazing is that the captain was the last person off the plane and exited ONLY after making sure everyone had got off the plane safely. I would like to think that I would have acted in the same manner as the pilot but I something tells me I probably would have acted more like George Costanza.... Quote
ValerieB Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 three friends of mine saw the "miracle" from their respective apartments in Manhattan Plaza (43rd & 10th)!! Quote
marcello Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Maxine? She must have had a great view from her windows! Quote
Soulstation1 Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Anyone watch 60 minutes last night? Quote
