king ubu Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 #148 The Complete Capitol Small Group Recordings of Benny Goodman 1944-1955 (4 CDs or 6 Q-LPs) disc 4, part 2 Quote
vajerzy Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 Thanks for the heads up. I see that it already has 10 bids on it. I'm pretty certain it will go for much more than I'd be willing to pay for it. It would be really nice to have the set but I don't want it so badly that I'd pay a big premium price for it. Maybe someday I'll trip across someone who just wants their money back (or a little extra) from the set but until then, I'll just have to enjoy his in-print stuff. Don't give up yet. It's only $41.00 and those 10 bids are 3 guys doing small bids. The JJ Mosaic historically hasn't sold real high over the original purchase price of $112.00 and there is no reserve. I've listened to it enough and hopefully it will help me purchase the Chu Berry set. Quote

Masters appear courtesy of Blue Note Records, a division of Capitol Records, Inc. Producer's note: Because much of the material used in this set consists of single sessions that produced entire LPs, we've decided, where possible, to retain the original album sequence within a session rather than present it in recorded order of performance. The studios sessions are presented in chronological order, followed by the live Lighthouse session, which occupies the two final discs. For the sake of repeated listenability, the already lengthy Discs Seven and Eight do not include the stage announcements or the audience singing "Happy Birthday" to Elvin Jones, which appeared on the original double LP issue. The out-of-phase sound on the drums on "Simone" (Disc Four, track three) is on the only surviving tape of this performance. The peak clipping of the bass drum at two points on "For All The Other Times" (Disc Four, track five) is in the original recording. Quote

For family reasons, I practically haven't accessed this board (or the internet) for a couple of weeks and couldn't see this thread. Yours truly, The sinner I didn't mean you, actually... your request was pretty old, in the meantime someone else asked for it and disappeared. But I'm glad I could help you, too! David Gitin Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 does anyone have (or know where I can find) the discography for: #157 The Complete Capitol Recordings Of George Shearing Thanks! Don't have a scanner, but FWIW, 157 is Complete Capitol LIVE Recordings. I do have it, just can't do that much keyboard (rheumatoid arthritis in both wrists). Quote
Swinging Swede Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Anyone have the Classic Capitol Jazz Sessions (#170) discography? The link on page 1 is a goner... As mentioned earlier in the thread, the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine is a great resource for retrieving old Mosaic discographies (and a lot of other web pages of yore...). Here is the one for Mosaic #170: Classic Capitol Jazz Sessions discography Quote
Alec Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 David-- Thanks for your reply. I got confused because on the Mosaic website they omit the "Live" in the title. So I mistakenly thought there were two Shearing sets-Live and studio. I have the discography for the live. BTW, hope your wrists feel better! Quote

The personnel and instrumentation have been provided by a research group of musicians and scholars, each of whom is an expert on the artists presented here. As was the case for our Beiderbecke, Trumbauer and Teagarden box set (MD7-211), a symposium was held at The Institute of Jazz Studies to correct any previous errors or omissions with the sides heard on this set. Additional information was gathered from the original job sheets and file cards that exist at the Sony archives in New York. The germ of this discography stems from the following reference materials: Jazz Records 1897-1942 by Brian Rust (Arlington House), The Jazz Discography by Tom Lord (Cadence Jazz Books), Jimmy Dorsey: A Study In Contrasts by Robert L. Stockdale (Scarecrow Press), Clarence Williams by Tom Lord (Storyville), Pops by Thomas A. DeLong (New Century Pub) and King Oliver by Laurie Wright (Storyville). Information was also provided by Ray Mitchell whose Eddie Lang discography, Feeling My Way - Eddie Lang Discography 1902-1933, is scheduled for publication in the fall of 2002 (offered privately through www.langstune@hotmail.com or Raymond F Mitchell, 71 Combe Road, Farncombe, Godalming, Surrey GU7 3SL England. 78 label abbreviations: Ban for Banner, Br for Brunswick, Bwy for Broadway, Cl for Clarion, Col for Columbia, Cq for Conqueror, Dom for Domino, Har for Harmony, Mt for Melotone, Od for Odeon, OK for OKeh, Or for Oriole, Pm for Paramount, Par for Parlophone, PA for Pathe Actuelle, Per for Perfect, Pur for Puritan, Re for Regal, RZ for Regal Zonophone, Ro for Romeo, Sil for Silvertone, VT for Velvet Tone and Voc for Vocalion.
