Producer's note: Because all of the material used in this set consists of single sessions that produced entire LPs, we've decided to retain the original album sequence within a session rather than present it in chronological order of performance. Many of our sets comprise sessions issued in scattered form and unissued masters that make retaining the original album sequence less desirable than strict chronological order of performance. Because many of you have expressed a preference for original sequences, where possible as in our recent Blue Mitchell and Hank Mobley sets, we will use them. We have put the sextet sessions (the origins and reunion) together on first two discs and the three 1961 studio sessions by the actual quintet together on the last two discs to preserve the concept and spirit of the music rather than the chronological integrity. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Nice stuff!! The Magnificent Goldberg Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 Some of the T-Bone Walker details appear to be wrong. T-Bone did two sessions for Imperial in New Orleans. 20 Mar 1953, New Orleans T-Bone, vcl, g; Dave Bartholemew, tp; Wendell Duconge, as; Lee Allen, ts; Herb Hardesty, bars; unk, p; Walter Nelson, g; Frank Fields, b; Cornelius Nelson, d; Baby Davis or Tiny Brown, voc (sounds like Davis to me). Long distance blues Got no use for you I'm still in love with you Railroad station blues 6 November 1953, New Orleans T-Bone, vcl, g; Dave Bartholemew, tp; Wendell Duconge, as; Lee Allen, ts; Herb Hardesty, bars; unk, p; Walter Nelson, g; Frank Fields, b; Cornelius Nelson, d. When the sun goes down Pony tail Wanderin' heart I'll always be in love with you These details come off the JSP box, "New Orleans guitar". On the Dutch 2CD set of the "Complete Imperial recordings 1950-1954", it's speculated that both sessions may have been recorded on 6 March. (The November date is supposed to be Los Angeles, but it sure as hell sounds like Wendell on alto sax.) MG Quote
vajerzy Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 The J.J. Johnson set is one I regret missing out on. Would someone be kind enough to post the discography and show me what I'm missing? Thanks. My JJ Mosaic is on Ebay now- the auction ends Tuesday evening: http://cgi.ebay.com/Mosaic-J-J-Johnson-Com...1QQcmdZViewItem Quote
mikelz777 Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 Thanks for the heads up. I see that it already has 10 bids on it. I'm pretty certain it will go for much more than I'd be willing to pay for it. It would be really nice to have the set but I don't want it so badly that I'd pay a big premium price for it. Maybe someday I'll trip across someone who just wants their money back (or a little extra) from the set but until then, I'll just have to enjoy his in-print stuff. Quote
allblues Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 Could anyone post the discography for #148 The Complete Capitol Small Group Recordings of Benny Goodman 1944-1955 (4 CDs or 6 Q-LPs) ? I've been looking for this too. I managed to figure most of it out with the help of the Connor books but would like to see what was in the Mosaic booklet. Quote

I got the info for these last sessions from jazzdisco.org, since a sampler of it came out on Blue Note and is listed there, with that wrong info, as it seems... Quote
