Stereojack Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Anybody growing tired of all these photos? Keep 'em coming. Every time there's a new batch, I like to scroll down, guessing who they are before seeing the caption! Quote
Dan Gould Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Actually, I sort of am tired of them. Or at least hoping for another revealing glimpse into the Albertson Files of Forgotten Yet Revealing Correspondence. Quote
Christiern Posted January 31, 2009 Author Report Posted January 31, 2009 Thanks for the responses. Dan, I will soon go back into the closet, so to speak, and dig up more of that stuff. Dan Gould Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Was there a soundtrack release to Pumping Iron? Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Mory Kante - 1988 (Polydor) I'm surprised to see Mory Kante being promoted by Polydor, as he recorded for Barclay. Was Polydor handling Barclay in the US in the late eighties, Chris? MG Quote

Christiern Posted February 1, 2009 Author Report Posted February 1, 2009 I'll start this day with an odd batch of glossies. MG wanted to see some of the producers, so we have Carl Jefferson, who loved jazz, and Bob Thiele, who also loved the music, but adored himself. Then there's one for Conrad, who loved Berigan. On to an interesting photo of a New York singer who draws more praise than customers, the son of a famous music publisher, and a colorful, enjoyable flash in the pan. Carl Jefferson, he founded a jazz festival and label (Concord Jazz) Bob Thiele, he founded many labels and built a museum for himself (Red Baron) Bunny Berigan (Bluebird) Catherine Dupuis (Martha Camarillo) Wyer Handy poses with staffers at a Stereo Review party (David Gould) August Darnell - aka "Kid Creole" (Hans Nelem) Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 Bob Thiele, he founded many labels and built a museum for himself A real museum or a metaphorical one? If it's real, does it contain the underpants he was wearing when Kennedy was shot? MG Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 Mike Douglas poses with The Dixie Hummingbirds* (Photographer unidentified) *Surely, he could have afforded a less obvious headpiece. If you're as obscure as Mike Douglas (and I've never heard of him) you need an eccentric wig, to make people take notice of you when you're posing with one of the greatest groups ever! MG Quote
Christiern Posted February 1, 2009 Author Report Posted February 1, 2009 MG, Douglas was far from obscure in the U.S., he had a daily network TV show that was very popular. As for Thiele's museum, my memory is vague on this, but it was a museum (devoted to rock and located outside of New York) that bore his name. It either failed or never got off the dream list. I see no mention of it in the various online Thiele bios, but, then again, his magazine, Jazz and Pop, also seems to be ignored. Quote
