just wondering, after taking out all the leased sessions and sessions that have already been released on cd, just what the heck is there left to release from this series. i know many people, myself included, have asked for more titles from the 5000 series, but is there really that many titles left? i believe the urbie green is one unissued title, anything else?

so if blue note had released the green/mecca recordings on one cd, and the two best from the west recordings on another, when they had that connoisseur 10" series release a couple of years back, they would have released everything available.

Also, the Mobley quartet session came out as a JRVG (but not as a TOCJ, as it falls outside that category). The JRVG sounds good, but, of course, does not have the alternates, so its playing time is short. (So short, that it would fit onto a 10" LP. :D )

Where did you hear that, Jim? If it DID come out as a TOCJ, it escaped Hans's attention. I don't know for sure, myself.

However, the idea of the TOCJ series is to reissue the 4000 and 1500 series of 12" LPs, isn't it? I have never seen anything to suggest that they threw in some of the 10 inchers, not that there would be anything wrong with that.

The Blue Note 10" LP Hank Mobley Quartet (Blue Note 5066) was NEVER released as a "Blue Note Works" TOCJ CD. Toshiba released it in August 1990 as a pretty expensive 2,800 yen "CJ" CD with 8 tracks (CJ28-5128):

Hank's Prank

Hank's Prank (alternate take)

My Sin

Avila and Tequila

Walkin' the Fence

Walkin' the Fence (alternate take)

Love for Sale

Just Coolin'

Maybe they've been released a while ago but some of them could stand to be reissued, if you don't have access to the JRVGs. The Elmo Hopes should be RVGed, for example.

Thanks for clarifying, Hans. That must be the one I'd heard about. Kevin Bresnahan had it, as I recall, and I thought he referred to it as a TOCJ (which it almost was, technically speaking). Anyway, I used to buy those CJ's at one of the local Tower stores. That series was not often in stock, and when they were, you had to grab them quickly because you wouldn't likely see another copy.
