king ubu Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 I stopped regularly reading and re-reading the liner notes, but I like having proper documentation, mainly, and I live with the illusion that lossless files burned to CDR actually do sound better to my very ears than MP3s from my analogically hooked up MP3-player... captainwrong Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 Sorry if this has been answered somewhere in this thread, but is there anywhere to get the discography info for these things easily? That's really all I need and then I'm ready to hit eMusic and Amazon. Quote
mjzee Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 We should start a thread listing all discographical resources. jazzdisco.org is a great place to start, though they seem to concentrate on bebop & afterwards: http://www.jazzdisco.org/ Here's a great Duke Ellington discography: http://www.depanorama.net/ Sidney Bechet: http://www.sidneybechet.org/sbr.html Monk: http://www.howardm.net/tsmonk/tsmonk2.php Quote
captainwrong Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 We should start a thread listing all discographical resources this is really an excellent idea. Here's a Gene Krupa one: http://www.genekrupa.net/session.html Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 UK members should note these Classics discs are a mere £3.95 downloaded from Amazon.co.uk. Extremely good value. Quote
Swinging Swede Posted May 17, 2009 Author Report Posted May 17, 2009 UK members should note these Classics discs are a mere £3.95 downloaded from Amazon.co.uk. Extremely good value. At the same time they are available in the "Complete Jazz Series" incarnation for £6.99. Well, I had my doubts about those all along. Quote
Jaffa Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Anyone with a dime to spare - and an empty store-room - might be interested in this e-bay item 380133246426 Quote
Indestructible! Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Whoa, $900 just to ship it over here! It'll be interesting to see how much this actually goes for. Cheers, Shane Quote
Swinging Swede Posted June 23, 2009 Author Report Posted June 23, 2009 Is that his personal archive? Or does he have mutiple copies? Quote
gmonahan Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Opening bid is $9.99. Maybe I should bid $10? greg mo Quote
Swinging Swede Posted July 4, 2009 Author Report Posted July 4, 2009 Sold for $6,600! That's slightly less than $7 per CD. Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted July 4, 2009 Report Posted July 4, 2009 (edited) I've a hunch this auction (or rather its selling price) is a bogus auction. Look at how those two final bidderrs raised each other briefly in a flash and then left it at that. And one of them with just ONE single feedback. If a newbie comes in at an auction out of the blue and bids sky-high way before the end I smell a BIG FAT rat!! Edited July 4, 2009 by Big Beat Steve Quote
bakeostrin Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 Agree with Steve on this one. E-bay rolled out the red carpet to shill bidding when it made all the bidding anonymous. Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 Agree with Steve on this one. E-bay rolled out the red carpet to shill bidding when it made all the bidding anonymous. And I would presume there is nothing to stop the sellers, creating a second ebay account and bidding on their own items to push up the price just as the auction is about to end??? Quote
randyhersom Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Only the risk of actually winning the auction. Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Only the risk of actually winning the auction. Of course, but then they could always re-list the item. Quote
captainknut Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 The CDs are rapidly running out even at the legit sites. I live in a country where I cannot download legit MP3s from Amazon. So my only option left is unauthorized downloading. Does anybody know a site where I can find the Duke Ellington albums to download? Quote

Chronological Classics and the nearly identical Complete Jazz Series are available there (in most countries) Quote
captainknut Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Have you tried eMusic.com? Chronological Classics and the nearly identical Complete Jazz Series are available there (in most countries) Search as I might, I could only find 16 of the 45 Duke Ellington Classics albums. The search function isn't too good, though. Do you know where I can find the Classics albums? (Do they have them all?) Quote
captainknut Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 And can I also download the artwork/booklet for the CD tray? Quote
randyhersom Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Here's an alternative, seems to be complete studio recordings through 1947: Dukle Ellingon 1924-1947 40 cd box I'll be supplementing it with the post 1947 CCs from eMusic. Quote
