Many of his recordings were done with the alternate spelling: Victor. I know that probably seems like a minor point at best, but it's very helpful if you're searching for his recordings. He also doubled on soprano, and is survived by his brother, pianist João Carlos Assis Brasil. Here's a link to his bio. on the AllBrazilianMusic site. As I recall, we had a copy of his Ao Vivo album at WRUV-FM back in the mid-1970s when I started doing radio. If memory serves it was very nice.
