Conte Candoli

  • Sincerely, Conte Candoli (1954)
  • Groovin' High: Conte Candoli, Vol. 2 (1955)
  • West Coast Wailers (1955)
  • Rhythm Plus One (1956)
  • Conte Candoli Quartet (1957)

UNFORTUNATLY, i hate to even admit it, i dont think i have these records...my conte solo lp collection kind of starts with Much Calor (1959) and ends with Big Band, Little Jazz (1960).....i can look up disog info on my own if someone would be so kind as to dennote the affiliated record labels.....

SIDE STORY: the time i met conte, c. 2000 or 01, it was before the smoking ban in reastatruants, and he was smokin this huge-ass, big 'ol cigar, this whoppin' like 10x size giant cigar- he was so cool

I can give you two of them:

Groovin' High: Conte Candoli, 1955 was for Bethlehem, a 10 incher.

West Coast Wailers, 1955 was for Atlantic, a 10 incher.

This information was in a post on Conte Candoli and Bill Holman on jazzwax.com Nov. 13, 2008. "The trio behind the duo was the same on both dates: Lou Levy on piano, Leroy Vinnegar on bass and Lawrence Marable on drums." Those two albums are included on a 2006 CD from Definitive.

I am envious that you got to meet him.

I have all five you mention (reissues, of course ;)).

"Sincerely, Conti" was on Bethlehem too (BCP 1016),

and "Conte Candoli Quartet" was Mode 109.

"Rhythm Plus One" (EPIC LN 3297) isn't usually listed as a Conte Candoli LP as it is a vehicle for FOUR featured horn men (Candoli, Jimmy Cleveland, Seldon Powell, Gene Quill) on three selections each.

BTW, any discography or "Goldmine's Price Guide to Collectible Jazz Albums" is your friend for questions like this. ;)
