Teasing the Korean
Heathcliff was a neighborhood stray who was in pretty rough shape when he showed up. We started feeding him regularly and he parked himself right on the doormat on the front porch. We literally tripped over him coming home or leaving - he was always there. He was soon looking a lot healthier and was the friendliest cat. My wife named him Heathcliff because the name had all the letters of "health" in it. I finally got my act together to take him in for shots, but he tested positive for feline leukemia and feline AIDS. I hope I did the right thing, for the sake of our other cats and those in the neighborhood.
papsrus
That's rough. Sorry. You did the right thing, and it sounds like he was very happy to be near y'all. Quality time counts! Edited December 19, 2008 by papsrus
Quincy
Shucks, that's tough. My sympathies.
jazzbo
I feel for you. . . sorry to read this. We had a stray adopt us that way and had years with him. I miss him a lot. . . it's been about seven years since he passed now.

patricia
So sad. At least for the last while of Heathcliff's life he knew he was loved. RIP Heathcliff.
Jazzmoose
My ex and I went through the same thing a few years back. Some stray was in the neighborhood who was definitely down on his luck and getting kicked around by other cats in the area. We managed to corrall him and nurse him back to health, we thought, although for some reason his wounds, though not infected, weren't healing very fast. A few tests at the vet revealed why. Sometimes doing the right thing hurts, but it's still the right thing.
Jim Alfredson
I adopted a stray who I named Herman. He's still happy and fat (very fat) but I've noticed he's having a hard time getting up and down the basement steps to his litterbox. I have no idea how old he was when he appeared, but that was 8 years ago.

kinuta
Sorry to hear that. Losing a cat can be especially heartbreaking. My cat was 21 when she died. I still miss her not jumping on the bed and licking my nose.
blind-blake
It can be pretty tough to lose a family pet. My condolences.
