Free For All
Happy Birthday to one of the greatest. One of the most instantly identifiable trumpet sounds and one of the swingingest cats ever. And a helluva nice guy too.
GA Russell
I've always been sentimental about Clark Terry because he was on my second jazz album, Ray Bryant's Gotta Travel On. His birthday made this morning's paper's list of celebrities' birthdays.
Ken Dryden
Count me in as being a long time Clark Terry fan. Happy Birthday to you, Clark, or in your words... "Agournhe vergessenfeuer gedunkewass!" or something like that...
flat5
Hello Clark Terry, Happy Birthday to you... I've admired your amazing brass playing and jazz ability since 1961 or so. I had the Bob Wilber "Evolution of the Blues" MMO and noticed that you played the tonic of each chord on "one" as you went through the pieces and never sounded contrived! I had the "Festival Session" Ellington record and marveled at your sound and phrasing on Perdido. I was about 13 then. I could listen to you, close my eyes and see a smallish black dog with floppy ears having fun. Go figure...

Shawn
Clark is easily one of my all-time favorite musicians, very few people can channel as much sheer joy into their playing. Happy Birthday Mumbles!
