Chuck Nessa
Sorry to say I thought he was gone long ago. Seemed like a nice guy and his screen characterizations worked for me.

OMG, that he was already gone was my first thought as well. second thought was that i believe he might have spent his life "in the closet". i only remember him from films of the fifties! yikes! BruceH
An exceptionally likable screen presence. He sure lived a long time. RIP
Dave James
Some of my favorites: Command Decision, A Guy Named Joe and Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo, but best of all, The Caine Mutiny. Johnson was the quintessential boy next door. He was well into his 90's when he passed. A long life and a good one. Up over and out.

Shawn
R.I.P. - I must admit that I always got him and Van Heflin confused.
Dave James
R.I.P. - I must admit that I always got him and Van Heflin confused. Same here. I find that reasonably peculiar since both physically and from an acting/performance standpoint, there's zero simliarity between the two. I guess it's got to be the name that creates the confusion. Up over and ouy.

I must admit to a little "Van" confusion from time to time myself. Fact is, I like them both in different ways. TCM last night had a mini-Van Heflin festival; reminded me just how good he was. The sad thing about Van Heflin was that he died relatively young, in 1971, at the beginning of his sixties. Quite a contrast to Van Johnson.
