BERIGAN Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 By Nichola Groom LONG BEACH, California (Reuters) - From pricey luxury sedans to popular hybrid cars, automobiles made overseas are stacking up at ports and parking lots around the United States as supplies far outstrip demand amid the nation's worst auto market in more than 25 years. At the Long Beach port near Los Angeles, Toyota Motor Corp vehicles including Prius hybrids, FJ Cruiser sport utility vehicles and Lexus IS 250 luxury sedans are being stored on a vast construction site that will one day be a new container terminal. http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSTRE4B61NA20081207 Quote
PHILLYQ Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 For the overwhelming majority of people a loan is necessary to buy a car and it's awfully tough to get a loan. Couple that with a recession where people are scared to spend and those cars will keep on piling up for awhile. Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 If it gets any worse and they start running out of lot space, they'll have to start parking vehicles on the UAW-owned course in MI. Lot's of wide open space there. http://www.blacklakegolf.com/ Quote

BERIGAN Posted December 19, 2008 Author Report Posted December 19, 2008 (edited) The fruits of 8 years of incompetence and warped priorities at the helm. Chris, this may come as quite a shock to you, but did you know the top 2 selling cars this year are....trucks???? I guess Bush should have outlawed them years ago, and the "car" companies would be so very much better off. Edited December 19, 2008 by BERIGAN Quote

There was an article, probably in the Times, about how foreign car companies (the ones that import cars rather than make them in Tennessee) are now leasing space at the Port Authority and turning it into a giant parking lot. Remember, first impressions are important, so you better inspect the car and make sure it is both mechanically sound and free from dents, dings and scrapes. Also have your mechanic check out your car and issue a report about its condition. You can use this to motivate a buyer who is on the fence about buying because you have overcome one more objection they can present.
