tjluke68 Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 I recently picked up some George Lewis (the clarinetist) LPs on ebay and was listening to THE PERENNIAL GEORGE LEWIS, when I wanted to see who was playing the vibes, the guitar, etc. Well those instruments weren't listed on the LP back-cover. Then I took a look at the LP and realized there were 4 songs, however the cover listed both side 1 and 2 as having 5 songs each. I'm sure this has many times, but the thing that pisses me off is I was really, really diggin' the vibes, guitar, clarinet, piano, bass, drums (maybe even trumpet) mix and I have no clue what LP it's from. I'll have to listen to it again to see if I can distinguish any cover tunes and then scour allmusic.com (or elsewhere) to determine what I'm listening to. Anyone have the same LP or the actual songs? Thanks! Quote

tjluke68 Posted December 10, 2008 Author Report Posted December 10, 2008 I forgot to mention that it leads me to believe it was a mis-pressing on Side 2 of the LP I have. Really wonder what I'm listening to - it's a TRUMPET player version of the LP, so probably something from the 50s... Quote
JSngry Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Check the matrix #s in the dead wax of the mis-pressed side & report them here. Somebody will be able to tell you waht it is you're hearing. Quote
tjluke68 Posted December 12, 2008 Author Report Posted December 12, 2008 OK, the matrix # is 8277, but the first 7 is so faint that it looks like a 1. So searching the net - looks like they put YUSEF LATEEF - BEFORE DAWN on that side. I'll have to find that LP since what I heard was mighty tasty. Plus gotta find another copy of THE PERENNIAL unless someone wants to share a WAV or MP3 of Side 2. Thanks again for the help - didn't think to look at the matrix numbers. TL Quote
