The Crimson Canary

I've got it on VHS, dubbed from a TV broadcast about 25 years ago. Not only do these musicians appear in the film, in a night club scene, but the entire film is about a jazz band that gets caught up in a murder mystery. The police detective is a jazz fan who identifies the trumpeter in the band from a recording!

No, but I've been really enjoying The Tan Canary, Johnny Adams, lately. I just got his CD of Percy Mayfield tunes and his collaboration with Dr. Lonnie Smith, and Room with a View of The Blues is a great LP, too, with a remarkable recording of the Gladys Knight tune "Neither One Of Us".

Great to see that! My Hollywood Stampede album has been a great favorite for years. For a man who started his professional career about twenty-five years earlier, it's amazing how Hawkins embraced the new bop sounds like that!
