Hardbopjazz
Has anyone here ever seen this film? I was listening to WKCR and this movie is considered the first film that showcased Bebop. The musicians in this film were Coleman Hawkins, Oscar Pettiford, Howard McGee and some others. I was trying to locate this movie to buy it, but it appears to be unavailable. BeBop
Yes. I've got it on 16mm (I think it is) and, once upon a time, dubbed it to Betamax. (Ahem.) The music is brief, but interesting. I've no idea where it can be purchased.
Stereojack
I've got it on VHS, dubbed from a TV broadcast about 25 years ago. Not only do these musicians appear in the film, in a night club scene, but the entire film is about a jazz band that gets caught up in a murder mystery. The police detective is a jazz fan who identifies the trumpeter in the band from a recording!
Dan Gould
No, but I've been really enjoying The Tan Canary, Johnny Adams, lately. I just got his CD of Percy Mayfield tunes and his collaboration with Dr. Lonnie Smith, and Room with a View of The Blues is a great LP, too, with a remarkable recording of the Gladys Knight tune "Neither One Of Us". Spontooneous
Weren't the musicians heard on the soundtrack not the ones seen onscreen?

Stereojack
Weren't the musicians heard on the soundtrack not the ones seen onscreen? THe Hawkins band seen in the night club are the same as on the soundtrack. The members of the jazz band starring in the film are actors, and their parts are dubbed by studio musicians. BillF
here it is: http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/searc...-stampede_music keep boppinĀ“ marcel Great to see that! My Hollywood Stampede album has been a great favorite for years. For a man who started his professional career about twenty-five years earlier, it's amazing how Hawkins embraced the new bop sounds like that! DukeCity
here it is: http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/searc...-stampede_music keep boppinĀ“ marcel Thanks for that! It's a truly authentic depiction of a jazz club: as soon as OP starts his bass solo, you can hear the crowd talking!
