Avatar Upload Frustration

OK.

Is there any particular reason why any picture I try to upload for my avatar has to be smaller than the microscopic image of a baby gnat wing in order to fit?

This is getting ridiculous.

An easy enough site to shrink the megabytes down on whatever picture you want to use for your avatar is webresizer.com.

In the meantime....it sure would be nice if the webmaster here could make it so the avatar upload could be automatically downsized to fit the unreasonable 100 X 100 size they insist upon.

I mean, nothing on the web is that small.

Obviously, there are plenty of small things on the web - like avatars. You'd be surprised at how generous 100 x 100 is, really.

Another trick, to avoid frustration is to upload them from the google image search, you can upload them on a smaller scale and it generally gives great looking pictures, then again considering my subjects they tend to look great no matter what.

Though I have noticed that even those images were getting kicked back.

but seriously i believe you can save the google front page thumbnail image to you desktop and then upload it from there.

tho you need to have a cool image to do that!

Most forums I visit either have no avatars or a 75x75 limit, so I think ours is rather generous. Also, the auto-sizing feature is annoying because it has to wait for the image to download, which.. if the image is hosted on some slow-ass server and/or is extremely large ... causes all the posts to be crammed up against the right side of the screen while some moron's 2400 x 1680 jpeg loads and then gets re-sized.

One of the other boards I post on has a 150X150 limit and it is alot nicer to look at. But I'm not complaining about the limitations here.
