Bright Moments Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 i just saw him play last month - he still has it and was having a BLAST playing and watching his band mates go at it!!!! happy birthday to a true legend of jazz! Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 Presented a five hour radio special on him last night, and another hour this morning, including in both excerpts of a nearly hour long face to face interview taped in 1993. Happy birthday Dave Brubeck! In a sense his solo piano recording "Indian Summer" is like playing himself off the stage. Quote
AndrewHill Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 HB DB!!! Love the Columbias and the Fantasies! Will have to schedule some in today. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 I need to find "Jazz Impressions of Eurasia." Love the Japan album. Quote

AndrewHill Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 Happy Birthday to a great man and artist! Great set, which to my knowledge, three of them are not available as single us releases. Quote
ccex Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 88! Good grief! Good grief, exactly. My favorite Brubeck album is "Quiet as the Moon" from 20 years ago, with lots of Charlie Brown/Peanuts references. A jazz pianist whose age in years is equal to the keys on his instrument is to be celebrated as much as a bowler who scores his weight. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 happy birthday DB, my goodness 88! I will listen to some stuff from The For All Time Box and maybe a bit of "Live at Carnegie Hall". The first Brubeck LP I ever heard as a kid was "Jazz Goes to College", it might have been close to an original pressing on thick, heavy vinyl. I never understood why Sony hasn't remastered that and put it out in a new edition w/ bonus tracks if possible. Quote
